Proportional Relationship Project

You will need to find an ad in a local paper containing a proportional relationship. You will be using this ad to create a table, equation, and graph describing the relationship. Your project will need to be on a half sheet of poster board. Write the full MLA heading on the back. Title your project and glue the ad on the front. You will be graded on your neatness and creativity. Please turn in your rubric with your project.

DUE DATE: TUESDAY, October 26, 2010

Follow the rubric to receive the maximum of 100 points.

• Write a complete statement about your proportional relationship

Example: Kroger is selling apples for $4 for 2 pounds.

• Create a table for this ad. Be sure to include a title, x column, process column, y column, and [pic] (ratio) column.

Example:

|Apple Prices |

|Amount of Apples |Process |Amount of Money |[pic] |

| | | | |

| | | | |

| | | | |

| | | | |

| | | | |

|x | |y | |

• Write an equation. The equation must be in the form of y =kx.

• Graph the data. Remember to label the axes, as well as your graph. Have a set interval labeled on the axes. Plot and connect the points and make the line continuous.

Example:

• Explain what an ordered pair represents on the graph. Example: (2, 4) means you can purchase 2 pounds of apples for $4.

• Write and solve two questions using your table, equation, or graph.

Example:

1. How much would it cost to buy 106 pounds of apples?

2. How many pounds of apples could you buy for $16?
