company rarely changed barrels on a customer's rifle.Using these barrel codes to date a shotgun is somewhat unreliable, as shotgun barrels are often interchanged at random. One needs to be sure that the barrel is original to the gun before trusting the Barrel Code listing, above. (*) On

8/9/99, stopped stamping the barrels with the date code. They continued to mark the date code on the end flap of the shipping box. They resumed stamping the date code on the barrel on 10/1/01.Also Honovich Top ArmyArcher63's Profile Copper BB Posts: 3Joined: Tue Feb 19, 2013 2:47

pm Does this coding system work for shotguns too? It says it does, but I find no codes stamped on my barrel that look like what's described here. I have an 870 Wingmaster in excellent condition w/a 28", Modified choked barrel that has a 2-3/4" chamber. There are various stampings around

the barrel, such as an "H", but it's all by itself with no other marks that look like they would go with it. The serial number begins and ends with the letter "V"; would that help?I'd like to know when it was made, can anyone help??Thanks Top phonejack's Profile .22LR Posts: 20Joined: Sat Feb

Profile Copper BB Posts: 1Joined: Tue Jan 08, 2019 4:37 pm I was trying to get some information on an old 700bdl rifle my father owns. it is stamped UXUC. I contacted Remington and they said by the Receiver serial number it was manufactured 12/71. This matches the "XU" stamp. My

question is what does the first "U" stamp and the last "C" stamp represent?Thank you Top williamcprice's Profile Copper BB Posts: 1Joined: Sat Jan 12, 2019 10:46 am I just recently purchased a Remington 1100 shotgun that has a serial number on the receiver that is "L79xxxxV". I'm
