FOOD LAB RULES

FOOD LAB RULES

1. At the beginning of the lab, one team member should bring your list, tray, measuring utensils and containers to the island when picking up food. Read the recipe carefully and measure accurately, using the correct tools.

2. Everyone works...you are graded on individual and teamwork.

3 Use safety rules at all times. Wipe up all spills immediately. Close cabinet doors and drawers after use to avoid accidents. Common sense is to be used in food labs. If an accident occurs, report all injuries to the teacher so that prompt medical care is received.

4. Fire extinguisher is located in the lab in case of emergencies. Baking soda and salt may be used for small fires. NEVER use water for grease fires. Use only potholders to remove hot dishes from oven or stove.

5 Always tie long hair back and wash your hands, and then put on an apron/jacket. Please do not comb hair or put on make-up in the lab. Long pants and close-toed shoes must be worn while in the lab. When cooking...leave backpacks, books and purses at your assigned desk seat in the classroom. DO Not bring your cell phone into the lab. Please secure any expensive items that can be picked up easily.

6. Clean the kitchen lab as you go. Kitchens will be checked when you leave and you will be graded on clean up. Clean up must be finished before you will be dismissed to your next class. If your kitchen is not clean and/or unorganized your kitchen will not be allowed to participate in the next lab. If on occasion you feel you need extra time to get to your next class, please inform teacher ahead of time to ask permission from next teacher if you can stay extra.

7. Keep all equipment in the right place. Equipment borrowed from other kitchens must be returned. If you break something, please tell me so it can be replaced. Do not use kitchen equipment when labs are not in progress.

8. Dispose of all food residues properly in the trash. We do not have garbage disposals and all the food will get clogged in the drain.

9. Wet dishcloths and towels can be put in the laundry basket near the front of the room. "Popping" or "hitting" each other with towels or any rough housing of any kind will result in dismissal from the lab and loss of credit.

10. Use all kitchen equipment properly as instructed. Return all borrowed knives to the teacher at the end of the lab. Handle sharp knives with care.

11. Ovens, burners, timers and other appliances should be turned OFF when your cooking is finished. Use proper size elements for the size of the pots and pans.

12. Make sure your tables are set correctly if table setting is required for the lab.

13. Please do not sit on counters or tables. You will be promptly dismissed from the lab.

14. Please do not bring other food or drink into the lab without permission.

15. Health laws require that all dishes be washed in hot, soapy water. Please wear latex gloves in lab if necessary.

16. You should not participate in labs if you are feeling sick. See the teacher for further instructions.

17. Unless otherwise instructed, the refrigerators and pantry are off limits

to students.

18. No horse playing around in the laboratory including improper use of ingredients or tools-such as throwing food, spraying, hitting others or yourself with materials.

I have read the above rules & I agree to adhere to them. I acknowledge that failure to keep these rules could result in my own or a classmates’ injury and that I may be dismissed from the lab with a warning for the first offense. On the second offense, in addition to being dismissed from the lab I will also be given an office referral.
