Renewal or Replacement of Driver License or ID Card while Out-of Country or Out-of-State

If you are currently outside of Oklahoma, you may use the following procedure to renew or replace your license or ID card by mail. You may only renew or replace your driver license if your driving privilege is in good standing and your Oklahoma address is correct and current. You can update your Oklahoma address on-line at

You may use this procedure to renew or replace a Class D license or ID Card only. Renewals may be made up to one (1) year early. Replacements can be obtained any time during the four year period the license is valid. (Effective November 1, 2009)

Commercial Driver Licenses (Class A, B, or C) cannot be renewed or replaced by mail, as they require an appearance before an Examiner for clearance.

Title 47 Section 6-122 Renewal By Mail

The Department of Public Safety may develop procedures whereby driver licenses issued under the provisions of Section 6-101 et seq. of this title may be renewed or replaced by the applicant by mail or online except for licenses to be renewed or replaced by aliens as prescribed by subsection E of Section 6-115 of this title. Any license issued pursuant to this section shall be valid for a period as prescribed in Section 6-115 of this title. The Department shall not renew or replace a license by mail or online unless the immediately preceding issuance or renewal or replacement was done in person by the applicant. Provided, any person or the spouse or dependent of a person:

1. Who is on active duty with the Armed Forces of the United States; or

2. Who is currently employed as a civilian contractor with the Armed Forces of the United States, living outside of Oklahoma and having a valid class D driver license issued by the State of Oklahoma, requiring no material change, may apply for no more than three consecutive renewals or replacement of such license by mail or online, in accordance with Department rules. A fourth consecutive renewal or replacement must be done in person.
