PROJECT DATA

Location

Denison Dam and Lake Texoma spans the border of Texas and Oklahoma. The reservoir lies within the counties of Bryan, Marshall, Johnson and Love in Oklahoma, Cooke and Grayson counties in Texas. Authorized for construction by the Flood Control Act of 1938, for flood control and the generation of hydroelectric power, the dam, spillway and outlet works construction were started in August 1939 and completed in February 1944. When completed, Denison Dam was America's largest rolled, earth-filled dam. The first hydroelectric turbine placed in operation was in March 1945 and the second unit in September 1949. Texoma is the largest lake in capacity in the Tulsa District and 12th largest lake in the United States.

Swimming Safety:

No lifeguards provided. Swim at your own risk. Learn how to swim. Swim at designated beach areas. Never swim alone. Swim with a buddy. Watch children closely. When storms approach...get out of the water and stay out. Don't overestimate your swimming ability as water distances are deceiving.

Boating Safety:

Take a boating safety course. Obey all state and federal boating regulations. Head for shore if bad weather threatens. Be watchful for obstructions in the water. Take extra care in shallow water and along the shoreline. There is no entry allowed beyond the buoy lines above and below Denison Dam.

It's the LAW..Children under 13 years of age MUST WEAR an approved Personal Floatation Device (PFD) whenever underway on a vessel less than 26 feet in length.
