Part 1: Emergency Repair Overview.

Windows NT 4.0 Repair:

This procedure repairs system and or registry files. It will also blow away any files or programs not on the original Windows NT CD-ROM. This means the Service Pack, Y2K and any software that has been installed into the C:\winnt directory and folders.

The process uses a setup.log and C:\repair to compare the current operating system to the original installation. Any files that are not listed or have a different date are considered to be corrupt and will be replaced.

If you repair only the registry hives then no harm no foul.

The damage is done when the system files are repaired.

WARNING: The repair process will repair the system and configuration to the point of the last update to the Emergency Repair Disk!

Service Pack 3 and Y2K Fix:

The service pack and y2kfix programs must be reloaded if you have repaired the system files.

Video Driver Installation:

The video driver is installed after the service pack has been reinstalled because it will be corrupted by the service pack installation if the repair all option is selected.

One of three conditions will exist after the Service Pack is installed: the driver will return OK, the display driver can be reconfigured in which case you just reset it; or the driver is corrupted and requires reinstallation and configuration.

Internet Explorer 5.01:

Ie5 will most likely be corrupted also by the Service Pack installation. Simply reinstall it and that will resolve any problems with ContentShare or NetCentral operation.

Profile XP Software:

The kipmdrv.sys file should still be installed properly so you only require one load of the Profile XP software.

Should you encounter a failed load due to an Open Service Error, check to ensure that SNMP Trap Service is stopped and reinstall the Profile software.

NetCentral Enterprise:

If you are running NetCentral Enterprise on the Profile XP you will need to reinstall it since any time you load Profile XP software you will install NetCentral Light.
