Role Description Senior Anthropologist (Manager, Heritage)Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation Primary purpose of role The Senior Anthropologist has primary responsibility to manage and facilitate heritage and cultural activities across Ngarluma Traditional lands, including mining surveys and monitoring of current activities.Key responsibilities Coordinate and provided line management of the activities of the Heritage team;Facilitation and finalisation of mining and other heritage surveys as requested or required under State and Commonwealth legislative requirements Consult, evaluate and develop activities for the engagement and implementation of heritage programs to ensure preservation of Ngarluma knowledge and cultural activities.Provide advice, direction and support to NAC in the development, implementation and evaluation of procedures and policies to improve the effectiveness of Aboriginal heritage assessment, identification and protectionProvide expert analysis and policy advice to the Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation (NAC) on matters relating to the Aboriginal Heritage ActCoordinate liaison between Aboriginal community groups, government and non-government agencies and other stakeholders on heritage issues.Represent NAC on working parties, committees and conferences as requiredConduct and report on assessment of government approval applications, proposals and other applications under the Aboriginal Heritage ActEnsures monitoring and follow up of compliance with conditions of approvals under the Aboriginal Heritage Act.Facilitate investigation of allegations of site disturbance and report on findingsIdentify and facilitate appropriate training and development of Ngarluma staff to ensure capacity to address heritage and cultural matters in a professional and timely mannerUndertakes other duties as anisational relationships The Implementation Officer has primary responsibility for developing relationships with: Rio Tinto; Local and State Government agencies; Local agencies (police, health, education); Mainstream and local business (including suppliers); and The Community. Selection Criteria Excellent verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience in providing heritage support to high level negotiations Experience in obtaining environmental and heritage approvalsA good working knowledge of relevant federal and state heritage and environment legislationDemonstrated commitment to positively engaging with local Aboriginal peoplePersonal resilience and the ability to manage stressful and frustrating situationsExperience in the resources, construction or development industryTertiary qualifications in Arts or Science with a major in Cultural Heritage studies, History, Indigenous studies, Australian studies, Anthropology, Archaeology or relevant environmental and/or cultural experienceProven analytical and writing skills with the ability to meet project timelinesStrong organisational skills and attention to detailHigh personal standard that can positively influence colleaguesApplications close: 13th March at 5pm For more information contact the Operations Manager Abby@.au or call 9182 1351 ................
