Do you have an interest in serving on one of our commissions or in helping with any of the town’s events? Then take a minute to complete one of these new forms. This will give us a good list of names to use as soon as a commission opening becomes available or when an event is approaching. Keep in mind we all need volunteers at some time or another and Boonsboro is no exception.

TOWN HALL HOLIDAY CLOSINGS

Good Friday - April 22nd

(Residential trash pickup will be Saturday, April 23rd)

Memorial Day - Monday, May 30th

yard waste collection

Yard waste is collected on Mondays ONLY.

It’s not necessary to contact town hall for a pickup. Bags will be gathered first and then the brush.

There are several stipulations:

- Place yard debris and brush at the curb by Sunday night (if Monday is a town honored holiday, pickup will be on Tuesday).

- Paper lawn bags must be used for grass, leaves and/or garden debris.

- No stone, sod, flower pots, plastic or other trash may be placed in the bags.

- Minimum of 8 bags per pickup weighing no more than 30 pounds each.

- Do not set the bags in the street by the curb where the bottoms can get wet.

- Brush, branches and/or tree trunks (without roots) no thicker than 4 inches in diameter and cut to a maximum length of 4 feet, with a maximum of 10 branches per household tied into bundles or placed separately in lawn bags from other debris.

TOWN’S YARD DEBRIS SITE

Town residents may have access to this site located at 6927 Monroe Road as long as they annually obtain a free permit from the town hall. Residents must show a valid driver’s license and the tag number of the vehicle they will be using. The yard debris site hours are week days 7 am – 2 pm and on Saturdays 8 am until noon. The site is open from spring through fall.

BOONSBORO POLICE REMINDERS

➢ 25MPH is the posted speed limit throughout town residential areas and radar is being enforced on all of the town’s streets.

➢ The street sweeper is in town on the third Monday of the odd numbered months and parked vehicles on Main and Potomac Streets will be ticketed.

➢ Shafer Park hours are from dawn until dusk – no trespassing or loitering is permitted after dusk.

➢ No pets are permitted within park grounds.

➢ The Boonsboro Police Department phone number is 301-432-6838. If there is no answer, leave a message. For an emergency – dial 911.

CHECK 21

This federal law went into effect several years ago and took away your ability to get back your original paper checks. Checks you write clear faster, but banks aren’t required to speed up the time when they make the funds available from checks you deposit.

Consumers are more likely to bounce checks and may find themselves paying higher bank fees. Do not write a check unless you know for sure the funds are already in your account.

Our bank charges the town’s account $15 every time a customer’s check is returned. In turn, the town passes that fee onto the customer plus an additional $25 if the check is returned twice. (Remember, the customer’s bank also charges a fee.)

We do not accept pre-dated checks or hold checks until funds are placed into a customer’s account.

PAYMENT SCHEDULES

During these unsound economic times, we realize our customers may sometimes have difficulty in paying their bills on time. Therefore, we will be glad to help with you establish a payment schedule for your utilities bill. Your invoice will still have to be paid within 90 days from the billing date, but we can turn those into weekly, bi-weekly or monthly payments, whichever works best for you.

THE TOWN PLANNER’S CORNER

It’s that time of the year again for the flowers to bloom and birds to chirp, making the outdoors the place to be! Please remember grass and weeds can be no longer than 12 inches in height and sidewalks are to remain free from weeds as well. Also, if you are thinking about purchasing a shed, an above-ground blow-up pool, or plan to build a deck, you are required to obtain a permit for these and any structures, buildings, or land activities. Please contact the Planning and Zoning Department at 301-432-5690 in advance of your purchase or plans so you are aware of the necessary requirements. Thank you for your cooperation and enjoy the outdoors!

There is still a vacancy to be filled on the Zoning Board of Appeals. If you would like to be considered for the position, please fill out a Community Volunteer Interest Form (on-line or at the town hall.)

Town Planner/Zoning Administrator
