Welcome to CCH ProSystem fx Scan v12.0

This bulletin provides important information about Scan v12.0. Please review this bulletin carefully. If you have any questions, additional information is available on CCH Support Online.

New in this Release

Save Annotations Check Box A new firm-wide option to not display the Save annotations for items check box on the Tax Import Summary screen of the AutoFlow Wizard is now available. This option eliminates the possibility of individual users erroneously generating a PDF file via the AutoFlow process that does not display highlights for autoflowed information. The option Hide "Save annotations for items" is on the General Settings tab in Scan Administrator and is not enabled by default.

Export to Clean Copy Using PDFlyer, you can now save a PDF file copy in which all annotations, markups, and comments have been removed. This function permanently eliminates all highlights, tickmarks, connectors, sticky notes, calculator tapes, and status indicators while retaining existing bookmarks. To prevent accidentally cleansing your working copy, when you select the Export to Clean Copy button, the system prompts you to save the clean copy as a new file before performing the cleanse.

Dynamically Resize Calculator Tapes You can now dynamically resize a PDFlyer calculator tape printed to PDF. Select the calculator tape and drag a corner to make the tape larger or smaller. You can also adjust the length and width by using the appropriate sizing handle.

Additional Fields AutoFlowed for Form 1040 Returns ? The Account Number field now autoflows for Form 1099-MISC and Form 1098. This addition improves form linking during the AutoFlow process. It also provides useful information by appending the account number to the bookmark description in the resulting PDF file.

? The Verification Code field now autoflows when it is provided on Forms W-2, copies B and C. The Internal Revenue Service is partnering with selected payroll services providers to include a 16-digit verification code on a limited number of W-2s provided to employees. The purpose of this test is to verify the authenticity of W-2 data as part of a series of steps to combat tax-related ID theft and refund fraud.

Account Number Available in AutoFlow Diagnostics Spreadsheet An Account Number is now provided, when available, in addition to the Issuer Name on the Missing Items tab of the AutoFlow Diagnostics spreadsheet. This feature can help you determine which source documents received in the prior year have not yet been provided for the year being autoflowed.

Known Issues Fixed in this Release

G&L Transactions PDF file The PDF file produced during the AutoFlow process which contains images of detailed brokerage transactions has been renamed from G&L Transactions.pdf to Brokerage Transactions.pdf. This change alleviates e-file errors related to the use of an ampersand in the name of an attached file.

Improved Linking of Masked Social Security Numbers during AutoFlow Improved linking of masked social security numbers ensures that current year information is linked with the correct prior-year information during the AutoFlow process.

Persist Location of the Add Field Window The Validation area of the AutoFlow Wizard now remembers the last-used location of the Add Field window and displays the window in this location for future sessions.

Installing Scan Administrator If you are updating from a previous version of Scan, the installation automatically detects a previous version of Scan and removes it.

Note: Scan is memory and CPU intensive. We recommend that you do not install Scan on a server or workstation that houses other critical applications, as it will degrade the performance of the other applications. Scan can be installed on a high-end workstation, if necessary, to avoid this issue. Import, Export, and Archive folders can be located on a separate server or file share.

Microsoft? .NET Framework 4.5.2 must be installed on the server or dedicated workstation running Scan Administrator. If you have not already installed .NET Framework 4.5.2, it is installed for you during the installation process.

For additional assistance, contact Customer Support at 1-800-PFX-9998 (1-800-739-9998).
