Assistant General Manager

(Revised November 2012)

General Definition: Responsible for Clubhouse operations at Monroe Street Station to include; bar and restaurant service, housekeeping, maintenance, security, and dock services. Also responsible for the selection, purchase, storage, and inventory of alcoholic beverages. Manages club in General Manager’s absence.

Essential functions:

1. Oversees food and beverage service systems. Ensures that proper training has been given all staff, both new and remedial education for long term staff.

2. Works with culinary crew to ensure food delivery times are within the target time range.

3. Ensures that opening and closing duties by a supervisor or manager are carried out correctly.

4. Promotes professionalism and teamwork within the service team, and between other staff members servicing the membership.

5. Responsible for the selection, buying, storing, inventorying, and service of alcoholic beverages. Is accountable for the cost of goods sold in this category.

6. Supervises housekeeping functions.

7. Ensures that security is staffed to adequately control access to the club, and to efficiently handle parking needs.

8. Supervises dock services. Insures that docks are staffed with the correct number of dockhands to deliver superior service to members and quests. Also that dockhands receive proper training as it relates to docking policy, docking procedures, and control systems

9. Receives and handles all member complaints as well as employee complaints.

10. Helps to develop the budget for all the Clubhouse area.

11. Controls and is held accountable for payroll dollars spent within the clubhouse team.

12. Acts as the club General Manager when he/she is not available.

Authority

1. To hire staff required to carry out functions and to make recommendations to the General Manager for dismissal.

2. To purchase beverages for the club’s use.

3. Make recommendations for products and changes to physical plant to improve service to members.

4. Handle member service issues.

Relationships

1. Reports to the General Manager

2. Works closely with the Executive Chef

3. Provides direct supervision to Food and Beverage service managers

4. Provides direct supervision to Housekeeping, Security, and Dockmaster

5. Works closely with all committees., and specifically Stations

Requirements

1. Undergraduate degree in business or hospitality

2. A career in the hospitality industry with progressive levels of increasing responsibility with at least 5 years’ experience, specifically as General Manager or Food and Beverage Director of a club or hotel

3. Enjoys working with people and has an outgoing personality.

4. Ability to carry out physical requirements, specifically the ability to be on foot for long hours, able to lift moderate weights.

5. Must be willing to work weekends, nights, and holidays

6. Involved with Club Managers Association of American, a CCM designation is a plus.

7. A history of strong ethics personal and work.

8. Strong communication skills both verbal and written

9. Computer literate
