U.S. SENATE LEADERSHIP The results of the 2018 election kept control of the Senate with the Republicans. Republicans are expected to hold leadership elections the week of Nov. 14. For the Republicans, Mitch McConnell (KY) is expected to continue to serve as majority leader. Current Majority Whip John Cornyn (TX) is termed out for the next Congress. John Thune (SD), current conference chairman, and John Barrasso (WY), current chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, are expected to remain in leadership. While leadership elections for Democrats have not been announced, Chuck Schumer (NY) is expected to continue to serve as minority leader and Richard Durbin (IL) as minority whip.

Due to the number of gains by Republicans in the Senate, there may be an impact on the size of committees and the allocation of seats to both sides of the aisle.
