|JOB SUMMARY |

|The Manager, Optical Retail Operations is responsible for managing all facets of optical operations at the five UW Health optical sites: University Station, Central, |

|West, East, and Deming Way. The majority of the position’s responsibilities are managerial (90% or more) and the remaining responsibilities (10% or less) are optician |

|related. This leadership role includes managing daily operations at the optical sites, managing staff and resources, maintaining budgetary and inventory controls, and |

|ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulations while maintaining the highest level of customer service. Optician duties include assisting patients |

|with their eyeglass and contact lens needs. |

|MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES |

| |

|Staff Management |

|Manage optical employees including Opticians, Optical Insurance Billing Specialist, and Optical AP/Inventory Specialist |

|Schedule employees to provide appropriate coverage at all optical locations |

|Coordinate/administer necessary training for new and existing employees |

|Create a climate that produces positive staff morale, motivation, and productivity |

|Complete annual performance evaluations |

|Provide ongoing feedback to staff and encourage professional growth and development |

|Recruit and terminate employees; provide disciplinary action when necessary |

|Conduct staff meetings on a regular basis that focus primarily on practice improvement |

|Budgetary and Inventory Controls |

|Manage all financial aspects of optical shops including budget development and implementation, revenue and expense projections, and approval of purchases |

|Monitor optical financial information, analyze data generated, and adjust to meet annual financial goals |

|Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable |

| |

|Maintain list of contracts with vision discounts; review discounts annually with financial analysis group and ensure all optical employees are aware of the discounts |

|Monitor, manage, and make decisions regarding the purchase of all optical inventory, equipment, and supplies |

|Manage pricing of all optical eyewear and products |

|Negotiate contracts and agreements with optical vendors including frame and lens vendors; solicit bids as necessary and maintain good relationships with vendor |

|Research and correct billing issues as necessary |

|Operations |

|Lead day to day operations of the five UW Health optical locations: University Station, Central, West, East, and Deming Way |

|Develop and implement operational policies and procedures as well as new technology |

|Collaborate with Marketing to develop marketing strategies to enhance revenue |

| |

|Determine marketing of optical products and eyewear by ordering necessary brochures, displaying merchandise, and creating a professional atmosphere |

| |

|Ensure patient satisfaction of all services rendered; address patient complaints and customer service issues as necessary |

|Ensure optical equipment is maintained/repaired as necessary |

| |

|Represent the department/clinic at organizational meetings providing input and decision-making where appropriate |

|Work as an optician in stores as needed (approximately 10% time), dispensing glasses and contact lenses, verifying Rx on lensometer, adjusting eyeglasses, etc. |

| |

|JOB REQUIREMENTS |

|Education |Minimum |Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related business field. Ten years of relevant |

| | |leadership experience may be considered in lieu of a degree in addition to the experience outlined below. |
