BASIC FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR
Instructor must have completed and passed a P.O.S.T Approved “Basic Firearms Instructor” course. This course may have been obtained through CLEFIA, the NRA, or a course offered by a Colorado Law enforcement agency sanctioned by P.O.S.T.
FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR II
TO APPLY:
Must have taught or assisted in teaching firearms classes for 3 years since “Basic Instructor” certification and be able to document the courses.
Must be certified in at least 3 firearms disciplines, i.e. Revolver, Semi-automatic handgun, Tactical Pistol, Shotgun, Patrol Rifle, Select Fire, or Precision Rifle
Must have attended a minimum of 8 hours of firearms instructor training each year since becoming a “Basic Instructor”
Must be a certified Armorer for a weapons system of ANY manufacturer
The prospective Firearms Instructor II will present the above packet to the CLEFIA Board for approval, and Must Score 90% in one of 2 attempts in a CLEFIA authorized course of fire
MASTER FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR
A prospective Candidate will notify the CLEFIA Board of their intent to apply for Master Firearms Instructor status at least 3 months prior to the annual conference in June.
TO APPLY:
Must have 5 years of active firearms instruction since certifying as a “Firearms Instructor II”
Must have attended a P.O.S.T. methodology of instruction course or a comparable college course, or have taught courses at the college level.
Must be an armoer in the 3 firearms disciplines, pistol, rifle and shotgun from ANY manufacturer
Must have attended 8 hours of in-service firearms instructor training each year since becoming a “Firearms Instructor II”
Must have co-taught an instructors course or academy class at another agency or the CLEFIA Conference at least twice since becoming a “Firearms Instructor II” and be able to document it.
Must have attended and taught at least once, a scenario based training regimen i.e.; Range 3000, Simunitions, Active Shooter, CQB Shoot House.
The prospective Master Firearms Instructor will present their documents in person to the CLEFIA Board at the Annul Conference; shoot a CLEFIA Masters course of fire scoring 90% in one of 2 attempts, and submit an original lesson plan for a course to be taught at the conference.
The prospective candidate will complete a written test covering multiple aspects of firearms instruction, and weapons familiarization.
The CLEFIA Board will then observe the candidate assist or teach their course at the annual conference evaluating the candidate’s abilities.
The CLEFIA Board will convene the final day of the conference and determine the candidate’s qualifications.
