Assessment Activity Title: Rhyme As We Go
Assessment Form: Summative
Type of Assessment: Performance, Constructed Response
Duration: 5 minutes per student
Standards Assessed: LA.A.1.1.2.K.4, LA.A.1.1.2.K.5, LA.A.1.1.3.K.1
Description of Assessment Activity: Students read the word cards, select pairs of rhyming cards, then select the graphic that shows the meaning of the two rhyming cards.
Teacher Directions: Before the assessment:
1. Print the words and pictures from parts one and two of this assessment. 2. Cut the words and pictures into separate cards.
During the assessment: 3. Gain attention by telling students that you will be calling them to come play a reading and rhyming game with you. They will be showing that they can understand a story, read the words they have been learning, and understand rhyming words. 4. This assessment must be done one-on-one. 5. Ask the student to read each word card (LA.A.1.1.3.K.1). As they are read, display them on a table or in a pocket chart. If the words can't be read, mark the assessment record and then tell the student the words. By doing this, students who can't read but do understand the concept of rhyming can be successful in the next step. 6. Have the student arrange the words to make sets of rhyming words (LA.A.1.1.2.K.5). 7. Once the sets are made, display the pictures. Have the student place each picture with the correct set of rhyming words. 8. Ask the student to tell what is happening in the picture (LA.A.1.1.2.K.4).
After the assessment: 9. Use the scoring information to determine mastery. 10. Mark the students' Assessment Record. 11. After completion of the assessment, review the assessment with students to aid in retention.
Student Directions:
1. Read each word I show you. 2. The words you read all have a rhyming partner. Find the rhyming partner and put the
words together in a set. 3. Find the picture that matches each set of rhyming words.
