Types of Nursing Program Admission

Two types of Admission 1. Full-time ? Classes start in August or January 2. Nursing Transfer(rare)-Student must be in good

standing at her/his original program. Meeting with Nursing Coordinator required to review nursing courses for possible transfer credit.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS - OVERVIEW

Health Science I Career Studies Certificate (CSC) Apply to Reynolds & Declare Health Science I CSC as your plan of

study. Program Code 221-190-01.

*Note: You cannot declare NURSING as your major. Only those accepted into the program will have their program plan changed by Program Coordinator.

Cumulative(overall) GPA 2.0 required GPA of 2.5 for the pre-reqs (SDV 101, ENG 111, BIO 141, PSY 230) is required

Transcripts are evaluated for curricular students only. AAS Nursing does not evaluate general education courses for transfer.

Send official high school and college transcripts(outside the VCCS) to the Registrar's Office, PO Box 85622, Richmond, VA 23285-5622.

Official transcripts from other Virginia Community College System (VCCS) institutions are not required, but the "Request for an Evaluation of a VCCS Transcript" form (JSRCC Form #11-0036) must be submitted to the registrar.

A.P. Test scores from high school will be considered for college level course credit. Student must submit this information to the registrar.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS - TESTING

Test for English Language Proficiency

ALL non-native English speaking students must pass an English language proficiency test. The TOEFL iBT, Pearson Test for English (PTE) Academic, & IELTS are the only acceptable proficiency exams. For TOEFL iBT, a minimum total score of 84 and a minimum speaking score of 26 must be earned. For PTE Academic a minimum score of 56 must be earned. For IELTS, a minimum score of 6.5 with no communicative skill below 6.0 must be earned. Any student that has completed 6th grade through high school graduation in the United States will be waived from this requirement. Completion of ENG 111 does not satisfy this requirement. These scores are based on recommendations from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing for the level of English proficiency required to perform entrylevel nursing safely and effectively. Any nonnative English speakers who do not pass an English language proficiency test and are determined to be unable to understand and speak English at the required proficiency will be dismissed from the nursing program. Test scores are valid for up to two years.

Validation of freedom from tuberculosis is required annually (2 step PPD-1 year exp OR QuantiFeron Gold-exp after 2 years ) ? Titers for the following: MMR; Varicella and Hepatitis B ? Tetanus within 10 years ? Flu shot (within season Oct- Apr)

Background Check and Drug Screening ? Background check and drug screening is required as you begin the nursing curriculum, and may be required randomly throughout the program

Inability to complete the clinical portion of any nursing course will result in a failing grade for that course
