Maternal Child Health Careers/Research Initiatives for Student Enhancement - Undergraduate Program (MCHC/RISE-UP) The MCHC/RISE-UP Program provides opportunities for enhanced public health leadership training to focus on elimination of health disparities and promotion of health equity. Grant funding for this program was awarded to Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop a national consortium of institutions and universities built on the Leadership Education and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) training framework and the previous CDC-funded RISE Program grant. Volunteer Position/Internship position at Mount SinaiThe Eating and Weight Disorders Program at the Icahn School of Medicine is an affiliate of the New York State Comprehensive Care Centers for Eating Disorders, and a founding program in the Mount Sinai Women’s Initiative in Psychiatry. We are committed to delivering gold-standard psychological treatments with demonstrated effectiveness for children, adolescents, and adults with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, obesity, or related body image problems. As part of our program, we have a number of ongoing clinical research studies. Our group is currently focused on testing innovative eating disorder and body image interventions and better understanding neurobiological and psychological mechanisms underlying eating disorder behaviors. Student Nurse Externship-South NassauThe student nurse extern is a member of the nursing staff who is trained to perform specific tasks under the direction of a registered nurse. This unique 8-week externship gives student nurses the opportunity to practice hands-on patient care in an atmosphere that is defined by intense caring and compassion. The experience begins with assignment to a unit and a preceptor RN who will provide the student nurse extern with the support and guidance needed to grow professionally. South Nassau's Student Nurse Externship Program offers a broad scope of hands-on experiences. State-of-the-art equipment and modern patient care units present student nurse externs with a range of learning experiences. Student Nurse Externs will also have the opportunity to collaborate on a nursing research-related project. In addition to direct patient care, additional experiences are arranged for student nurse Externs to observe in one or two areas of interest. This 3-credit elective course is open to students who are entering the senior year of their nursing training and have not yet graduated from their undergraduate program. Nurse Residents rotate through different orthopedic services such as Total Arthroplasty, Spine, Sports, Trauma/Limb Lengthening, as well as Hand and Foot. The cohort meets on a weekly basis during their clinical orientation, which allows for review of clinical competencies with a clinical education specialist. Trinity Health Summer Internship (Connecticut)The Student Nurse Internship is an 8-week program designed to provide baccalaureate nursing students entering their senior year with the opportunity for clinical practice in a supportive learning environment. Interns are assigned to a Registered Nurse preceptor on a particular clinical unit. Nurse Educators meet with the interns and their preceptors regularly throughout the summer. Interns also participate in educational sessions on a variety of clinical issues and professional development topics. The internship provides nursing students with coaching and mentoring that will build confidence in patient care, critical thinking, time management, priority setting, and clinical decision-making. Georgetown Summer Internship (Washington)Each summer, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital hosts more than fifty nursing students from around the country for a ten-week nurse technician program. Here, students gain valuable, hands-on experience that sets them apart. Our paid externship helps nursing students discover new nursing specialties through paid shadow days. Bi-weekly Lunch and Learn meetings engage nurse technicians in conversations about professional and clinical topics and prepare them for their next role as new graduate nurses.
