Dear Friends:

We enthusiastically invite you to join us for La Presencia Latina: Influencing Change, the sixth annual conference of the Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation to be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, near O'Hare International Airport.

The event brings together members and friends of the Illinois Latino community in an event-filled day that has grown more popular with every passing year. The ILLCF conference has become a special day where diverse aspects of the community can interact with each other, listen to new ideas, learn from each other and return to their regular lives with reinvigorated energy, spirit and creativity.

Our goal this year with the conference is to educate, inform, motivate and inspire in a series of sessions that will delve deeply into the most significant issues of our day. We want to help answer the questions of how families can have more effective interaction with state government and work with community-based organizations, businesses and agencies that focus on the crucial topics we address at this conference. As a result, the members of the Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus will be better prepared to craft new policy directions and an ongoing strategic agenda that can better serve the needs of the Latino communities.

Noted speakers and panelists will share their expertise on a wide range of subjects impacting the Latino communities, including health, gun violence, senior citizen concerns, energy costs and conservation, economic challenges, education policy, disabilities, and more.

Highlights:

? The entire Latino Caucus from the Illinois General Assembly, as well as additional elected officers, will be present to discuss issues that impact the Latino community.

? This year's annual scholarship banquet will feature a keynote speech by Robert J. Renteria, Jr., who was raised in an impoverished East L.A. barrio but rose to become a successful businessman, inspiring speaker, accomplished author and community leader.

? A panel of experts with significant interactions in Springfield's political process will speak about ways that individuals can be more effective advocates for their causes and points of view.

? Twenty deserving college students will receive foundation scholarships at the banquet.

Who should attend this event? Any member of the Latino community who wants to find out more about policies that profoundly affect their families' well-being.

The cost for attending is low ? just $20 for the day, which includes a light breakfast and lunch. Participants are also invited to attend a scholarship banquet. Those wishing to attend the banquet can purchase tickets for $150 each.

Plan now to attend this conference. You can register by mail, by fax or on line at . Registration information is included in this brochure. Future conference updates will be posted on the web site.

We hope to see you in Rosemont!

Best regards,

SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET

Robert J. Renteria, Jr.

Robert J. Renteria, Jr., successful businessman and author of From the Barrio to the Board Room, challenges individuals and organizations to help inspire at risk children and adults with the powerful message that everyone has the right to chase the American Dream. His vision has been endorsed by Congressmen and Mayors, Princeton University professors and barrio and ghetto school teachers.

Renteria came from humble beginnings, growing up in an impoverished East L.A. barrio and abandoned by his drug and alcohol addicted father. As a teenager, he became involved with a tough street crowd, used and dealt drugs, dropped out of school, and went from one dead-end job to another. However, upon learning that his estranged father had died in a half-way house on skid-row, Robert resolved to start making better choices in his life. After a seven year stint in the U.S. Army, he moved to Chicago and talked his way into a job at a laundry management and sales company that eventually led to a position as VP of a publicly traded company on the NYSE. His success has convinced him to strike off on his own, and he has dedicated his life to sharing his story with thousands of other people in an effort to light a fire under them.

Robert has given keynote addresses to the Hispanic National Bar Association in Chicago, and the Chicago Public Schools and has been profiled in major media, including Univision, La Raza, Hoy and WGN (Adelante Chicago).
