FROM THE COVER:
A Whirlwind World
Tour with PBS!
This summer, the adventure
continues as PBS presents a lineup
of programs that take us to some of
the most remarkable destinations
in North America and abroad --
from touring the vibrant immigrant
communities in American cities with
Chef Marcus Samuelsson in No
Passport Required (Tuesdays, July
10 - Aug. 14) to climbing to the top of
the Rocky Mountains, the Himalayas
and the Andes in Kingdoms of the Sky
(Wednesdays, July 11-25). In addition,
we will visit places where human survival is pushed to the limits in Earth's Natural Wonders (Wednesdays, July 11-25) and journey to the outer regions of the remote Australian bush
Victoria Bromley/BBC NHU 2016
A young jimador cuts down a blue agave plant, the essential ingredient of Mexico's legendary tequila.
in The Outback (Wednesdays, Aug. 1-15). As if that weren't enough, you'll get
to explore streets, monuments and modern marvels in 10 that Changed America
(Tuesdays, July 10-24) and journey deep into the depths of Mexico's tropical
rainforests in Wonders of Mexico (Wednesdays, Aug. 1-15). Whew! Better get
rest beforehand -- that's going to be a lot of ground to cover and a lot of time
zones! Fortunately, you'll be able to do it all from your time zone...and without
even breaking a sweat. That's the beauty of Public Television, for sure: getting
to traverse the world and sample other continents, climates and cultures, all
without cashing in a single air mile! That's a pretty sweet deal indeed!

From the Board...
Wow, it's summer already and it's been a very busy year so far at KSPS.
I hope you'll take the time to read the profile of our 2018 Volunteer of the Year, Tom McArthur, found on the centerspread. Tom and our other wonderful volunteers have put in over 4,359 hours of service for KSPS in the past year. These are very dedicated and delightful supporters who staff the front desk, work in the office, take calls for pledge campaigns and serve on the Board of Directors and the Community Advisory Board. Volunteers make events happen -- like last year's visit by The Wall That Heals and FitKids Day. If KSPS had to pay to staff all of these functions, it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. No kidding!
A huge thank you to Tom McArthur and hundreds of others who volunteer. If you'd like to become part of our team of volunteers, call 509-443-7700...and join us in making 2018 the best year yet!

Where in the World is Ross Poldark?
We know...we know...even though we're up to our khaki pockets in the Summer of Adventure -- a time to get up, get out and go explore that big, bright, beautiful world we live in -- one burning question eclipses almost everything else in the vast and wonderful realm that is Public Television: WHERE IS POLDARK?!
Well fear not, because as August rides off into the summer sunset, we'll be hearing the not-too-distant hoofbeats of Poldark Season 4 on KSPS! In fact, we are going to start September off with a bang on Sunday, September 2 with a seven-hour Poldark Binge Watch of Season 3 episodes! (Don't forget, too, that any of you who really missed the boat can catch the rest of the encore episodes of Season 2 in July and August -- Sundays at 8 pm.) It will be a chance to get up to speed with any episodes you might have missed -- and help lay the groundwork for the Premiere of Season 5: on Sunday, September 30!
Get ready! Season 4 just kicked off in the U.K. in June and the buzz is already a-buzzing on the Internet and social media, right from the opening scene! It's going to be a season to remember... and you'll get to see it all right here on KSPS!
KSPS Community Advisory Board
The KSPS Community Advisory Board provides valuable input to the Friends of KSPS (the station's governing Board) about KSPS programming, community service initiatives and how the station's outreach and other decisions impact the communities we serve.
