Design of Machine Element HW # 2
22.425 Design of Machine Element HW # 3
6–10 Estimate the endurance strength of a 1.5-in-diameter rod of AISI 1040 steel having a machined finish and heat-treated to a tensile strength of 110 kpsi. Assume reversed bending, room temperature, 90% reliability.
2. Bearing reactions are located at A & B of the countershaft shown in the figure. The bending forces are F1 = 2 .1 kN and F2 = 4.5 kN. The steel has minimum strengths of Sut = 610 MPa and Syt = 490 MPa. Estimate the fatigue factor of safety based on a machined finish for the shaft. Dimensions are in millimeters. All fillets have a 1.6 mm radius.
