From September 2012 the department will be comprised of three specialist full time members of staff, four specialist part time members of staff and a full time PE technician.

The key stage 3 curriculum is split between PE and Games lessons.

PE lessons are taught in single sex groups of 14-18 students and each lesson is one hour in length. Activities covered across the department include Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Gymnastics, Health Related Fitness, OAA, Tennis, Rounders and Cricket.

Games lessons involve an entire year group being taught simultaneously, still in single sex groups and each lesson is one hour in length. Activities include Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Football, Rounders, Cricket and Athletics.

Each student in key stage 4 will attend a fortnightly PE lesson and a weekly games lesson. PE groups can vary in size from 10 – 30+ students who will further their learning in some of the activities outlined at key stage 3. Boys Games in year 10 is structured as at key stage 3 and the girls can choose from different options. Year 11 Games provides a variety of options on a termly basis and includes both single sex and mixed options.

GCSE PE is an optional subject at key stage 4. Students taking GCSE will have five one hour lessons during a two week timetable, three of which are classroom-based.

Games is compulsory in Year 12 and optional for Year 13. Senior Games takes place on Thursday afternoons and runs during lunch and lesson 5. It is an extensive programme of activities which students pick on a termly basis. Additional staff are timetabled from other departments to facilitate certain activities. Additional activities include aerobics and lacrosse.

A Level PE is an optional subject in the sixth form. The AS Level involves nine lessons during the two week timetable and A2 involves ten lessons.

The department also runs an extensive extra-curricular programme. Many clubs are offered during the school year involving many of the activities outlined above and external coaches offer additional sports including Fencing, Tae Kwon Do and Golf. The school competes to a high level in its core sports; Rugby, Hockey, Football, Netball, Basketball, Tennis, Cricket, Rounders and Athletics and offers opportunities in other sports where possible. In addition, the school House system is strongly supported by the PE department who run inter-house competitions in a high number of sports throughout the school year.
