Technology in Music Education

For years Music students have walked into classrooms played their instruments, hand wrote music, and learned their ear training by sitting at a piano. Technology is not a necessity in the music classroom but it can make things more interesting and probably increase the understanding of the students. Programs like Finale, Sibelius, , Or the Grove online dictionary are leading products in music technology.

Finale will help students learn Music theory and will also help students learn to notate music. Whether it be original or a song they heard on the radio, sometimes students have a song stuck in their head and just want to write it down. Finale is the same program John Williams uses to write his film scores.

Sibelius is a program also used to write music. To compare the two programs, finale and Sibelius, finale is for the more advanced student while Sibelius is for the better looks. The two programs will do the job but I would defiantly use finale.

Music is an online site designed to teach students ear training, theory. It will give instructive lessons with videos and sounds. It will also give you a quiz to make sure you have learned the content. There is also a chord calculator to show you what roman numeral analysis to put for chords after you input the chord.

Groves online music dictionary can help students find a composer, researcher or even just music terms. Grove dictionaries can also be found in book for in over 10 books! Now you can just go online find all the many books in one single website and not have to go through the books trying to find the topic.

In conclusion, Technology in music ed. Is not necessarily a mandatory thing. It however can help immensely. However the best tuner might not be a computer, the ear will always be the best technology in music.
