HYPERLINK "" \t "_blank" “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley HYPERLINK "" \t "_blank" : Silverware clanging?Additional Equipment/ Supplies Required: Computer to show YouTube clips and a lighter to light candle.?Optional/Additional items: Additional tactile/visual items would be flower petals, chocolate boxes, perfume boxes, diamond rings (pretend!), heart-shaped decorations, pictures of Cupid, red pajamas with hearts on, or something “love-related” as the pattern., chocolate covered strawberries.. also could include famous love poems such as, “”How Do I Love Thee, Let Me Count The Ways”.ActivitiesVisual: Show the picture of the kissing couple and ask the client to recall their first kiss. Ask them where it was, how old they were and who it was with. Show the “A Special Love” card and ask the client to recall the best card they’ve ever given or received. Ask why it was so special. Ask if it’s more meaningful to give store bought cards or homemade. Read a small passage from “The Sweetest Kiss” book and ask the client to recall their favorite love novel as a child or that they’ve read recently. Ask if the client would like to read a small passage out of this novel. This group would be a good opportunity to speak about “the love of their life”, what the word loves means to them, how they have celebrated a Valentine’s day in the past. You could pass around the “diamond” ring, and ask if anyone was proposed to on Valentine’s Day.Modification: Allow client to open and close card and book. Show lots of pictures of people embracing, holding hands, kissing and ask participant to point to the picture of the hug, the couple holding hands.Tactile:?Prompt client to close eyes and pass them the brown teddy bear. Ask them to describe what they are feeling and try to have them identify what it is by touch. Ask what their favorite animal and if they’ve ever received a real or stuffed animal for Valentine’s Day. Pass the pink fuzzy socks around and ask what their favorite color is. Pass the woman’s tights around and ask the female clients if they’ve ever worn them and for what occasion. Any clothing with hearts on – a sweater, socks, a piece of jewelry, would be good in this section. Modification: Provide additional item to guess the items. Items that are red, heart shaped (i.e. red heart candy, red rose or Valentine’s day cards would help a person with less cognitive function to connect the object with Valentine’s Day. ?Smell:?Light the chocolate or perfume scented candle in a concealed area and have the client guess the scent. If you have real flowers and chocolates that would be even better. Ask them what their favorite candle scent is and what occasions they use candles for. Pass both he hairspray bottle and AXE body spray around with sheets of paper to spray them on. Ask the client if the smells remind them of anything. Have client recall the last time they got all dolled up.Modification: Place the candle close to the client in plain vision. Spray a sample of the hairspray and body spray prior to starting activity. Taste: Give each client a Hershey kiss and ask him or her to share a Valentine’s Day kiss story before eating it. Ask the client to describe the taste. Ask the client what their favorite candy is and if it’s still around today. Ask them how much the candy use to cost, and how much they think it costs today. Pass out the box of tic tacs and ask them to open and close the container before retrieving one.Modification: Select candies that are familiar to the clients.Auditory: Play both “Loving You” by Minnie Riperton?and “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley. For each song ask the client to identify the title of the song, the singer and the time period it came out. (You can also Google, “Top 10 Love Songs of the 1950’s –for example- and see how many songs participants can hum or recall the name of the singer) Ask client which song they/artist they like better. Ask client what their favorite (romantic/love song) songs and singers are and when they hear that song, what /who does it remind them of?. Ask client if they every used to sing or play an instrument and provide more detail if they have.?Bring out the fork and spoon and tap them. Ask where the client’s favorite restaurant was to go on a date. Ask what kind of food they served, and what their favorite dish was there.Modification: Encourage client to sing/hum to songs played on YouTube. Ask clients to tap the spoon and fork together themselves. ................
