Brad's May 2019 column

May and June in the Rosemont will be "bustin' out all over" with the convergence of Dogs, Bears, Wolves and Bandits. In just a one-month period of time starting on Friday, May 17, three important events will take place in our village that promise to bring together families, friends, and sports enthusiasts from all over the country. But even before that, we're celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Chicago Wolves following their win Sunday, April 28 in their latest quest for the AHL's Calder Cup. The Wolves defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins at Allstate Arena to advance to the next round of playoffs. Our stadium will continue to rock and roll with the best in hockey in the weeks ahead. Meanwhile, on May 17, the Chicago Dogs baseball team will play its second season home opener at Impact Field, our 6,300-seat, cozy, state-of-the-art stadium that's located right off the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and Balmoral Avenue. Then during the weekend of June 7-9, thousands of fans of the Chicago Bears will gather at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center along River Road to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the NFL football team. And just a few days later, our Chicago Bandits professional women's softball team will host its 15th season home opener at our Parkway Bank Sports Complex, which is just a short walk from Impact Field. There'll be plenty of parking for everyone. This trifecta of fun will illuminate the village like never before serving as a gateway for families interested in affordable adventure. Every fan that comes through the front gate of Impact Field for the Dogs opener on May 17 will be given a free hot dog costume for the purpose of achieving the record for the "world's largest gathering of wieners in one location." That night, retired National Hockey League great Chris Chelios will throw out the first pitch of the game that kicks-off at 7:05 p.m. Fans may also get the opportunity to see former Chicago Cub Carlos Zambrano, the newest member of the Dogs pitching corps, hurl in relief. We're thrilled in Rosemont to be the host city of the Bears 100th anniversary convention June 7-9. Fans will get the chance to see up close and personal past and present Bear Hall of Fame greats, learn about the history of the franchise that dates back to the days when the team was called the Decatur Staleys, and participate in games and interactive activities associated with the team and professional football. At the Bandits home opener on June 12, the first 500 fans will be given a free T-shirt. A perennial powerhouse in the National Women's Professional Softball League and a multi-winner of the league title, the Bandits have called Rosemont home since 2011. Following the end of regular season play, the league championship series will be hosted at our Parkway Bank Sports Complex Aug. 15-19. Fans will be able to experience low cost entertainment that not only includes the best in women's professional softball but also an abundance of food, music and entertainment for kids. However, even before the Bandits' home opener, the team will host the USA Softball National Team for one-week June 10-17 at the local ballpark. Team USA will be preparing for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. During the week, Team USA will play three contests against the Bandits and two games against last season's league champs USSSA Pride. Under normal conditions, Rosemont is always the center of family fun throughout the year with its Parkway Bank Park entertainment district that year-round features numerous restaurants and gathering spots, And nearby are 18 top flight hotels, more restaurants, Fashion Outlet shopping mall as well as Allstate Arena and Rosemont Theater. With season play kicking-off soon for the Dogs and Bandits, and the Bears anniversary convention, a big, bright exclamation point can be added to our community motto "It's All Here". Everyone's invited!
