Short Story Unit Project

Short Story Unit Project

English 8

Mrs. Woodliffe

This project is designed to show your learning in this unit. There are several parts to this project. Use the checklists to ensure you get all the marks you possibly can! You may present your learning in the medium of your choice (poster, booklet, power-point, prezi, etc.). There will be ample class time to complete the project, and the due date will be determined next week.

Part C must be done individually, but you may choose to do the other sections of this project with a partner, using the same story. However, both students will receive the same mark, regardless of how the work is divided. Be very cautious if you choose to work with a partner – if that person is absent or unprepared, it will cause problems. Also, if you do not use the class time wisely, and need to finish outside of the school day, you need to be available for each other.

Part A. Summary (3 marks)

Present a short summary of the story, approximately a paragraph length.

Part B. Story Elements (25 marks)

Using your class notes, name and explain as many story elements as you can.

Create a plot graph that breaks the story into the five main parts. Make a

character trait chart for your protagonist. See the checklist on the back of this

page to ensure you don’t miss any elements.

Part C. Explanatory Paragraph (6 marks)

Write a well-developed explanatory paragraph about the reasons why one should

or should not read this story.

Part D. Oral Presentation (6 marks)

Present your story information to the rest of the class. See the oral presentation

rubric for hints on what is needed for a good presentation.
