JUDGES

Dogs - David Hindle (Pendayne)

Dogs have always been part of my life although it was not until 1986 that I first was introduced to Great Danes by my wife Joyce and I was smitten and we began to show, travelling all over. Entries were big back then I can remember often standing in classes of almost 40. We had some success and decided we would breed and from our first litter we kept a bitch and she went on to win 2 RCC. We have only had occasional litters and have won CCs with our homebred girl Pendayne Persephone and from the Hecklehaze Kennel Lady Esther.

I presently serve on the Pennine Great Dane Club committee and have also served on the Midland and West.

I first judged in 1990 and have awarded tickets most recently at SKC in 2014. It is a great honour to be asked by the committee to judge at this show and I very much look forward to the show.

Bitches - Debbie Arbery (Mohos)

My interest and love of dogs extends from an early age when my parents had two fox terriers as family pets, together with horses.

I obtained my first Great Dane in 1984 ‘Wharflake’, and in 1987 a further Great Dane ‘Grovemandy’

In 1990 "Garsak Wishing on a Star at Yacanto" - Erica – came into our lives, and was my foundation bitch.

I have made up three Champions and a further six Great Danes with 6 cc’s and 9 rcc’s.

I was a committee member of ‘Cheltenham & District Canine Society’ and started stewarding in 2004, taking my Cruft’s exam in 2006.

My first judging appointment for Great Danes was in 1992 and I have also judged many breeds in the working group.

I am looking forward to judging bitches in the show in November.

PLEASE NOTE

SPECIAL AWARDS EVENTS

The Kennel Club have given us permission to schedule

3 Mixed Sex Special Award Classes, at our Championship Show which are Puppy, Post Graduate and Open Classes. THIS IS TO ENABLE THE JUDGE TO GO OVER A NUMBER OF GREAT DANES. The classes / dogs judged can then be added to the judges CV. The entry fee is reduced to encourage entries.

The Special Award Classes are judged as an entirely separate entry from the main show. Should your dog/bitch be beaten in the Special Award Classes, IT IS NOT CLASSED AS A BEATEN DOG/BITCH AND IS NOT DISQUALIFIED FROM CHALLENGING IN THE MAIN SHOW

Please support these classes which will be held in the lunch break and are designed to give judges a chance to handle a good mix of Great Danes. And after all it only costs £1 per class and you have nothing to lose.

Special Awards Judge: Beverley Grierson (Griffindane)

As a child of 9 I fell in love with a “lost” brindle Great Dane called “Remus”. He stayed with us for two days until his owner was found. At the time my parents said no to owning a dog.

Finally, 25 years ago my childhood dream of owning one of these majestic creatures came true. We have never been without one (or more) since.

On visiting crufts the year after getting my first Dane, Saffy, I saw how well her litter brothers and sisters were doing and I was talked into showing her.

I found I loved the whole process of showing. As a school teacher at the time, showing gave me a release from the everyday stresses of school life.

I have been judging Great Danes since 2006 and look forward to judging the Special Awards at the forthcoming G.D.C of Wales championship show

Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the Board for disciplinary action under the Kennel Club Rules and Regulations.

Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events.

( When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.

( If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.

( The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water available to drink.

( Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.

( When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.

( Keep the dog in the shade – take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.

( Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths of time.

Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire results. Please look after your dog’s welfare.

WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOURVEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILILTY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED.
