We will have team and individual champions in each discipline. Youth will form teams of 4 scouts. If you can’t form a team, we’ll be glad to team you up with one. Not a great shot? That’s okay! This is for fun and there will be certified instructors to help you along the way. Boy Scouts may participate in shotgun and .22 rifle. Participants of Cowboy Action Shooting must have completed 8th grade or be 14 years of age. Venturers may participate in shotgun, .22 rifle, Cowboy Action Shooting, and .22 pistol. (BSA National policy restricts Boy Scouts from shooting pistol outside of Cowboy Action Shooting) Where is TOP SHOT?Ben Delatour Scout Ranch 2331 County Rd 68C Red Feather Lakes, CO 80545Who may participate? Any registered Boy Scout, Venturer, or Explorer. Adults may attend and can participate in Cowboy Action Shooting if space is available. What’s the fee? Per scout registration fee is, $50 if registered by February 28th $55 if registered by March 31st $60 if registered by April 12th $5 per adult. Optional Cowboy Actions Shooting for adults is $5 per round. Registration closes April 12th Camping sites, inaugural patch and Friday nightCracker Barrel included with registration fee. Teams and Event Start TimesAfter registration is closed, teams for each shooting sports discipline will be scheduled with event location and start times. Each team will have four members. If your Unit is not able to fill full teams, the event committee will combine partial teams from di?erent Units. All shooting events will be held Saturday. Want to help on sta??We need Adult Leader help in many areas to make this a successful event. If you are an NRA Instructor or RSO we particularly need your help. We will also need help with logistics, scoring, campfire, chapel, and first aid. If you would like to help please let us know when registering. HeadquartersEvent headquarters is located at Lions Lodge. Arrival and Check-InCheck-in is Friday from 4:00-6:00pm at theMuseum Building. Vehicles and ParkingParking will be in the main parking lot by the Museum or at Soaring Eagle if that is your assigned camp area. Only vehicles with PASSES will be allowed on Weaver Lake Road Passes will be issued by the volunteers operating the event. Camping AreasAssigned camping areas will be at either SoaringEagle or Je?erey camping areas. EquipmentEach Unit will need to bring regular weekend camping equipment. Units will be assigned a camping area upon arrival. Units are responsible for preparing all of their meals. Bring proper shooting sports eye and ear protection. WaterDue to the variability of weather this time of year, water will NOT be available. All units should plan on bringing their own water. Restrooms & LatrinesLatrines will be open. Restrooms are dependent on water supply. FireSubject to Ranger approval, fires are only allowed in provided fire rings. Units must observe “Leave No Trace” camping and remove all ash and partially burnt wood. DO NOT BUILD NEW FIRE RINGS. TrashTrash will be hauled out by each individual unit. Trash is not to be deposited in any dumpster on camp property due to the awakening wildlife. Clothing and AttireParticipants should prepare for cold, windy and wet weather. All clothing must be Scouting appropriate. The BSA uniform is always welcome. Good shoes are a must, as all participants will be walking for several miles along the shooting event route. Competitive shooting attire is allowed. First AidUnits are primarily responsible for their own first aid. The Top Shot sta? will provide a camp health o?cer at the Headquarters location for medical issues beyond unit first aid. All emergencies should report immediately to the closest sta? person or Headquarters. Safety MeetingAll participants, leaders, instructors and sta? are required to attend a mandatory safety briefing at Coral Rock Dining Hall Friday at 8:00pm. This will cover all range safety procedures and discipline specific shooting fundamentals. Signed safety cards will be issued to all participants attending the safety briefing and MUST BE presented to the range safety o?cer prior to each shooting event. Failure to do so, will disqualify you from participating in that event. Range specific safety briefing will be held before your teams scheduled start time. Friday Night Cracker BarrelCoral Rock Dining Hall following mandatory safety briefing. Cleanup/Check OutCampsites will be inspected and signed out by a member of the shooting sports committee prior to check out by Sunday noon. Please contact headquarters prior to the awards ceremony if your unit will be checking out Saturday. Awards CeremonyAwards for each discipline will be announced at a ceremony held at Tower Rock Camp Fire Ring at 7:00pm Saturday. Chapel ServiceThe open air Grannon Chapel is available to units for a non-denominational service. Please contact headquarters prior to service. Gun CleaningCleaning of firearms will be held at each shooting range Saturday afternoon. Each unit should provide two volunteers. Sign-up sheet will be available at the Friday night Safety meeting. FirearmsAll firearms for this event will be provide by Longs Peak Council. DO NOT bring personal firearms. BSA National policy does not permit concealed carry on BDSR property. BSA policy restricts Cowboy Action Shooting to those who have completed the 8th grade or who are 14 years of age or older on the day of shoot and Pistols to Venture Crew and Explorers. Team start times will be posted at the museum and at each range. Please arrive 30 minutes before your team event is scheduled to start. Range specific safety briefing will be held before your scheduled event. Remember to bring signed safety card to each event. You will not be allowed to participate in the event without your safety card! Boy Scouts, Venture Crew, and Explorers22 RIFLE (Max 200 points)Shooters will have a 5-10 minute coached familiarization period for the function of the rifle in question. Sight in period on the left target center bullseye. Equipment Benched Rifle Competition1. .22 rimfire bolt action rifle with open sights provided by the council. For practice prior to competition please consider this. 2. Open sights only. Benched Rifle Competition1. All shots will be from 50 feet 2. 20 record shots a. 1 shot per bullseye b. 10 shots per target c. 20 shots total 3. Time Limit a. 20 minutes for 20 shots 4. Shooting Position a. Seated Bench Position. 5. Tie Breaker: a. Total combined x’s. Targets2 Separate NRA A-17 12 Gauge Shotgun (Max 25 points)Shooters will have a 5-10 shot coached familiarization period for the function of the shotgun in question. All clay pigeons will be straightaway shots. Shooters will not rotate stations. Equipment Shotgun Trap 1. 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun provided by the council. For practice prior to competition please consider this. Shotgun Trap1. All shots will be from behind or equal to the thrower 2. 25 record shots 3. Shooting Position a. Longest number of hits in a string Targets25 Clay Pigeons Cowboy Action Shooting (Max 12 points)Shooters will have coached familiarization period for function of .22 revolver, .22 lever action rifle, and 12 gauge shot gun. .22 Revolver5 shots at designated target .22 Lever Action Rifle5 shots at designated target 12 Gauge Shot Gun2 shots at designated target Score based on hits in pistol, rifle, and shotgun. Tie breaker on longest string of hits. Venture Crew and Explorers22 Pistol (Max 400 points)Shooters will have a 5-10 minute coached familiarization period for the function of the pistol in question. Equipment Camp Perry Round Modified 1. .22 rimfire pistol, Ruger mkIV provided by the council. For practice prior to competition please consider this. 2. Open sights only. Rear sight may be adjustable, but sight radius no more than 10 inches. Camp Perry Round Modified1.
