Installation Tips for CD Accompanying Product & Process Design Principles, 2nd Ed. on a computer running Windows Vista operating system and/or using Mozilla Firefox internet browser instead of Internet Explorer.

1) Make sure Quicktime, Adobe Shockwave, Adobe Acrobat, and the Century Schoolbook font are installed on your computer before attempting to install the software.

2) Open the CD by double-clicking on the DVD RW Drive (D:) Encyclopedia icon or right-clicking and choosing Explore.

3) Right-click on the file name ‘install.exe’. Select ‘Properties’. Select the Compatibility tab. Check the boxes for ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)’ and ‘Run this program as an administrator’. Press OK. (See figure below).

4) Run the ‘install.exe’ file. Follow the instructions. This will install ‘Using Process Simulators in Chemical Engineering’, version 2.0, on your computer. If your default browser is Internet Explorer, it may work fine for you at this point, although you may want to follow the upgrade instructions below to update from version 2.0 to 2.2.

5) The program is accessed by the orange shortcut installed on the desktop called ‘Encyclopedia’. Paying attention to reading the install instructions will inform users of Firefox to change the program to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Using Process Simulators in Chemical Engineering\dswmedia\GO.htm" instead of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Using Process Simulators in Chemical Engineering\dswmedia\GO.hta" (If this change is not made, the program will not run with Firefox as the default browser)

6) Viewing the ‘Read Me First’ file at the end of installation opens a ‘.pdf’ file with instructions on upgrading the program from version 2.0 to 2.2. Follow the same instructions given in step (3) to run the ‘upgrade.exe’ file in Windows XP (Service Pack 2) Compatibility Mode.

7) That’s it. Hopefully these instructions make the installation run more smoothly for you than it did for me!
