WEEKLY DEVOTION

A GOD-SIZED ASSIGNMENT

Thought

A God-sized assignment creates a crisis point where you must decide if you will follow God's leading. Israel facing the Promised Land is a good example of this crisis of belief. Israel looked at the giant descents of Anak and thought they were bigger than God. This cost forty years in God's work of conquest. Has the giant size of God's project blinded you to God's power?

"However, the people living in the land are strong, and the cities are large and fortified. We also saw the descendants of Anak there.

Prayer

Numbers 13:28 HCSB

Lord God Almighty! You have all power. Nothing is impossible for You. That means This devotional is courtesy nothing is impossible for You and me together. I will begin Your work today. Amen. of Experiencing God Day

By Day Devotional.

FAITH PROMISE SUNDAY MARCH 25

On Sunday, March 25th, we will be celebrating our annual Faith Promise Sunday. Patricia Magyar of U.M.C.O.R. will be our special "Faith Promise" speaker for worship service. There will be a pitch-in lunch after church. Meat and Drinks will be provided by the Missions Committee. We invite everyone to join us for a great day of celebration as we celebrate the mission work of First United Methodist Church.

Our guest speaker, Patricia Magyar, was born in Indianapolis, IN and graduated from Indiana University in the School of Nursing. After graduation she met and married her husband and moved to Arizona. They volunteered with the United Methodist Church in the 1970's and have been United Methodist since that time. In the 1980's they served in Mexico as volunteers. Patricia's husband returned to seminary and became a United Methodist minister. Her dream was to work with U.M.C.O.R. In September of 2006, after obtaining a Master of Public Health from the University of Arizona, she began her work for the Board of Global Ministries. She presently works in the unit of UMCOR Health and works in the US, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Patricia has been to Haiti several times since the earthquake and to several countries in Latin America always looking at the health ministry in those areas.

SPECIAL STUDY

BE OFFERED

We will be offering a special study beginning Sunday, April 15, by Bill Hybels entitled Just Walk Across the Room. This study will be offered at 9:00 AM on Sunday mornings in The Topics Class. In this lesson, Bill Hybels shows how we can participate in the model of telling others about God...first set by Jesus, who stepped down from heaven 2000 years ago to bring hope and redemption to a broken people. Now it is our turn! We all need to learn how to share God's love!

BOOK DISCUSSION -- RADICAL

You are invited to read with us the book, Radical : Taking Back Your Faith From the American Dream, by David Platt. We will be reading the book and then having two book discussions times, on a Saturday, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Coffee and refreshments will be served.

Chapters 1 through 5 March 17, 2012 Chapters 6 through 9 April 21, 2012 In this book, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. Copies of the book are available in the church office. We hope you will join us!
