| | |new exchange-traded funds. |

| | |U.S. ETF market assets were approximately $1.91 trillion in August. IShares, Vanguard, and SPDR State Street Global Advisors |

| | |ETFs experienced the highest inflows of assets, while Goldman Sachs, PowerShares DB, and ProShares were among those with the |

| | |greatest asset outflows. The large blend, large growth, and large value Morningstar Categories had the greatest inflows, |

| | |totaling around $22.39 billion, while the Europe stock, utilities, and commodities precious metals categories had the greatest|

| | |outflows, totaling approximately $4.12 billion. |

| | |The funds with the greatest August inflows include iShares Core S&P 500 IVV ($3.63 billion), Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF |

| | |VTI ($2.61 billion), and Vanguard S&P 500 ETF VOO ($2.06 billion). The funds with the highest outflows were iShares MSCI EMU |

| | |EZU (down $1.37 billion), Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF VGK (down $0.60 billion), and iShares US Utilities IDU (down $0.59 |

| | |billion). |

| | |The three highest-performing U.S. ETF categories for the month of August were trading-leveraged equity, Latin America stock, |

| | |and energy limited partnership, with returns ranging from 6.84% to 8.72%. The three lowest-performing ETF categories for the |

| | |month trading-inverse equity, volatility, and bear market, with returns ranging from negative 7.59% to negative 5.27%. |

| | |August 2014 returns for the U.S. ETF universe averaged 1.81%, compared with negative 1.33% returns from the previous month. |
