Dear Fire Official:

Marriott Fire Protection is part of the Risk Management Department of Marriott International, the parent corporation of 20 hotel brands including Ritz-Carlton, J. W. Marriott, Bulgari, Renaissance, Residence Inn, Courtyard, Fairfield Inn, SpringHill Suites and TownePlace Suites. Marriott International ensures fire and life safety in over 500,000 guest rooms around the world by strict compliance to fire safety codes and practices as a core business ethic.

Marriott Fire Protection (MFP) is comprised of an industry leading staff of fire professionals from a wide range of experiences. A primary job requisite of a Marriott Fire Protection Associate is service in a firefighting and rescue department in an urban/suburban setting. The more than 40 inspectors and fire protection engineers on our staff represent well over 550 years of this experience in career, volunteer and Marriott Fire Protection environments. Additionally, MFP employs both fire protection and mechanical engineers with international credentials who serve on various NFPA Committees to stay abreast of fire technology and code administration. We are also active in numerous fire prevention and protection-related activities nationally and internationally, too. As a Fire Official, you may rest assured that Marriott Fire Protection Associates share your concern for safety and possess similar credentials including a minimum certification as NFPA Fire Inspector I and II.

Marriott Fire Protection requires that all construction and renovation in Marriott owned, managed and franchised properties meet the more stringent requirements of all local, state, national or Marriott fire and life safety codes. Marriott Fire Protection contracts for fire inspections with individual properties bearing the above flags and takes full responsibility for the testing and restoration of all fire protection systems. As the owner’s agent, MFP ensures that property staff is intimately involved in the testing process with deficiencies noted and immediate action undertaken to assure fire safety.

The hard work of Marriott Fire Protection has resulted in many fire-related awards over the years. In 1998, MFP leadership was presented the “Most Valuable Person to the Nation’s Fire Service Award,” by the National Association of State Fire Marshals, followed in 2000, with the “Ronald H. Brown Standards Leadership Award,” in 2001, the “President’s Award” from the NFPA, and in March 2005, the “Red Adair Award” by Industrial Fire World for contributions to fire safety. In August 2005, Fire Protection Contractor Magazine named Sonny Scarff, Director of Corporate Fire Protection, its “Person of the Year.”

Other milestones include the first in the hotel industry to retrofit automatic sprinkler systems in hotels in 1982 (before national codes required such protection). MFP continues to set the pace worldwide by installing fire mist systems in properties with limited water supplies and architecturally and historically sensitive settings. Most importantly, Marriott Fire Protection’s greatest reward is knowing that for over 30 years and countless overnight guest stays (Marriott typically sleeps one million people nightly) our guests have slept in safety, the result of high standards and the constant stressing of preventive maintenance of fire protection systems.

We hope that you’ll recognize Marriott Fire Protection as your partner in fire and life safety matters. Please feel free to call 301-380-7502 if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

The Marriott Fire Protection Team
