Job Description

Job Title: Quality and Safety Manager Dept.: Operations

Reports to: Director of Operations Date: 05/27/20

General Summary of Position:

The Quality and Safety Manager will provide focus and direction in the areas of safety, quality management systems, quality assurance, and continuous improvement. This role will be critical to drive accountability and operational excellence throughout the organization, particularly as related to quality.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

• Leads the Company initiative in the development, implementation, and improvement of the appropriate Safety Management Systems throughout the organization, with all the documentation required. This includes the establishment, implementation and maintenance of company safety system policies, monitoring programs, the evaluation of in-house and safety audits by employees and outside agencies, gathering of statistical data and providing advanced safety planning support in the reducing the chance for accidents and injuries.

• Develop and implement a Quality organizational structure capable of supporting the company’s strategic initiatives and lead the efforts to integrate quality needs into the development of short- and long-range company strategic business plans.

• Study, investigate and recommend new or leading-edge technologies, tools, methods, and procedures on the fields of quality assurance and continuous improvement to proactively address changes in the business environment.

• Provide expertise in Quality Assurance and process improvement tools and methods to the other functional areas of the organization to support the company’s continuous improvement activities.

• Lead the internal quality system audit process and manage the corrective action system. Analyze key organizational quality metrics and perform periodical reviews to evaluate results and establish action plans to close gaps at the operational level.

• Monitors and investigates quality issues; reviews areas of risk, conducts internal and comparative trend analyses to identify variations from norms or potential areas/procedures requiring further investigation.

• Manage the budget of the quality organization.

• Involved with supplier selection.

• Other duties as assigned.

Other Responsibilities:

• May do other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

• Maintain awareness on company policies and procedures.

• Maintain awareness on company objectives for Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost

• Support the Company’s continuous improvement initiatives.

I. Position Requirements:

• Educational & Technical Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, technical or other related discipline

• Managerial Experience Requirements: 3-5 years experiencing managing technical personnel and manufacturing activities and should include a minimum of four years in quality and safety management.

• Good computer skills and a familiarity with Word, Excel and Access

• Preferred 5 years of experience with plastic extrusion

• Fluent in English and Spanish

II. Minimum Years of Experience Required in Specific Functions/Positions:

• Manufacturing Maintenance: 5 years (Preferred)

III. Measure of Performance:

• Development of Company quality and safety programs

• Development of necessary Company QC procedures and standard operating procedures

• Development and implementation of a formal vendor certification program. Proper management of vendor compliance programs and reporting of results.

• Collect and post safety metrics

• Report and evaluate accident and near miss reporting

IV. Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

• Must be able to stand for prolonged periods

• Must be able to lift 50lbs

• Ability to analyze, understand and effectively communicate deep technical material.

• Ability to work in a demanding user environment - work under pressure

• Good oral/written communications

• Ability to get along with diverse personalities, good reasoning abilities and make sound judgment

V. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS

• ASQ certification is preferred

• OSHA 30-hour certification preferred
