GENERAL COMMITTEE

1. Social Charter of the Americas: Renewal of the Hemispheric Commitment to Fight Extreme Poverty in the Region

2. Addressing the issues of self-determination and of lands, territories and resources in the context of the American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Declaration of the 26th MOAS for high schools:

“Energy for Development”

(Delegations may bring their draft declarations to the MOAS, however, those drafts will serve as a source to originate only one declaration. The MOAS declaration must be the result of discussion and debate in a working group during the Model. This draft resolution will not be included in a book for debate; it will be copied as a single document before its debate in the General Committee. The draft declaration must be approved by the General Committee before its presentation to the MOAS General Assembly where it needs to be approved by consensus.)

FIRST COMMITTEE: Juridical and Political Affairs

1. Initiatives for cooperation among the countries of the Americas for the application of the provisions of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption and for the strengthening of the MESISIC.

2. The Media and the Right to Freedom of Thought and Expression in the countries of the Americas.

SECOND COMMITTEE: Hemispheric Security

1. Complying with the recommendations of the evaluation rounds of the Multinational Evaluation Mechanism (MEM) as a means to strengthen the Anti-Drug Strategy in the Hemisphere.

2. Promotion of Hemispheric Cooperation in Dealing with Gangs Involved in Criminal Activities.

THIRD COMMITTEE: Inter-American Summits Management and Civil Society Participation in OAS Activities and

Inter-American Council for Integral Development - CIDI

1. Follow-up and Implementation of the Mandates of the Declaration of Mar del Plata and the Plan of Action of the Fourth Summit of the Americas.

2. Coordination of Volunteers in the Hemisphere in Response to Natural Disasters and the Fight against Hunger and Poverty – White Helmets Initiative.”

FOURTH COMMITTEE: Administrative and Budgetary Affairs

1. Program-budget of the Organization for 2008 and determination of Member States’ quotas.

2. Increasing the Voluntary Funds for the renovation and maintenance of the OAS Main Building complex (including Museum, Casita and Administrative building).

Technical secretariat assignments for faculty advisors

During the MOAS the Faculty Advisors act as “Technical Secretaries” by observing the meetings of the committees. The DER has randomly assigned the teachers as per the country represented by their student delegations. If the Technical Secretaries observe that the proceedings are not going according to the Rules of Procedure or if they notice any disorderly behavior they must either bring it to the attention of the committee chair or to the DER staff.
