Career Services Coordinator

Full-Time

Floyd County Campus

Georgia Northwestern Technical College is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Career Services Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Enrollment Services, the Career Services Coordinator will, under minimal supervision, coordinate all career counseling and career services activities; guides students in the identification of potential career choices and coordinates the career services between students and employers; maintains active involvement in community organizations; utilizes analytical and computer skills to improve student engagement; completes administrative reports; coordinates with internal and external team members; and assists with recruiting activities. Occasional evening and weekend hours and travel to other campuses are required.

Major Duties:

• Guides students in identifying potential career choices to identify their abilities, needs, interests, and values in relation career opportunities and job searches

• Receives, processes, files and makes available to students, information concerning job opportunities and stays in regular contact with students to provide job leads and following up on the progress of their job search.

• Provides one-on-one counseling to students seeking assistance with creating resumes and cover letters, the job search, interviewing, and other skills.

• Maintains and updates webpage and campus job board, which include links to job postings and job search sites, helpful tips on the job search, and information about area job fairs.

• Conducts job fairs to provide students/graduates with area employment opportunities.

• Provides workshops and presentations to groups requesting information related to career services.

• Stays abreast of area business and industry trends; maintains updated information on salaries for those programs offered by the college.

• Works with business and industry in job development and recruits in the surrounding community; disseminates pertinent information as requested.

• Conducts on campus recruiting at the request of area businesses.

• Surveys business and industry for feedback on graduates employed by the businesses.

• Provides job postings to program faculty to share with their students; contacts faculty about possible candidates for jobs.

• Works closely with faculty to follow up on student employment data.

• Attends meetings, workshops, peer group meetings, and other business related events to keep updated on changes within the profession. This will sometimes require overnight travel.

Required Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university and specific experience in employment services; experience in planning or evaluating office or program procedures/processes; experience in staff interviewing and selection; experience instructing and/or counseling students. Excellent oral and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills for a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include (but are not limited to):

• Master’s degree from an accredited university *and/or* 3+ years of career service experience in a higher education setting.

• Certification or previous professional development in resume building, creating cover letters, or interview skills.

• Experience overseeing or working with companies/faculty to facilitate internships.

• Self-motivation and ability to work independently.

• Exceptional presentation abilities, including in-classroom workshop or teaching experience.

• Experience planning and implementing large scale events, such as job fairs or on-campus resource fairs.

• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop/Premiere (or equivalent video and photo editing software), virtual meeting/webinar software, etc.

• Digital content management experience, including Virtual Job Shadow (or similar software), creating video training content, managing social media accounts, job boards, and creating live virtual events.

• Active relationships with area businesses and/or networking organizations.
