|within CSIRO Services consist of a diverse set of external funding arrangements and extensive collaboration with CSIRO Business Units. |

|The role will be responsible for developing our service product offering – by helping to articulate the customer value proposition for the business |

|services which we offer and the best way to package those services for our customers. Customer acquisition is through building market intelligence to |

|help identify potential customers for our services, strategic business development opportunities and areas for business growth. |

| |

|The Business Development Manager will work with, and coach our delivery teams to help to close complex deals and ensure we are building and monitoring|

|a portfolio of external relationships and pipeline of funding opportunities aligned to the business goals of CSIRO Services. |

| |

|The role will also have significant input into the development of the CSIRO Services BD strategy and plans and be responsible for the execution of the|

|plans in assigned areas; proactively monitoring and driving performance improvement against the plan objectives. |

|Duties and Key Result Areas: |

| |

|With an initial focus on CSIRO Futures (but working as needed with each of the CSIRO Services businesses): |

|Develop the service product offering, build market intelligence and identify business growth opportunities. |

|Develop and execute strategic business development plans incorporating insight into industry, market needs and opportunities, effectively utilising |

|available business and market information. |

|Proactively identify, guide and support the conversion of BD opportunities. |

|Plan and lead the development of complex bids and negotiate with clients to close high quality deals in collaboration with delivery teams and internal|

|support functions. |

|Develop and apply a strong knowledge of CSIRO Services strategies, policies, processes, systems and tools relevant to BD, including operational |

|planning, commercial governance mechanisms and pipeline management. |

|Maintain opportunity pipeline and workflow systems to ensure accurate forecasting, visibility and reporting of opportunities. |

|Proactively create manage and maintain a portfolio of ‘trusted advisor’ relationships with strategic clients, partners, and key internal stakeholders |

|to drive BD activities and achieve objectives. |

|Develop and apply a broad knowledge of the CSIRO Services business offerings and a strong working knowledge of specific areas of responsibility. |

|Selection Criteria: |

|Pre-Requisites: |

|Education/Qualifications: A degree in science, engineering, business or marketing and at least 2-3 years’ experience in a commercial management or |

|strategy consulting firm. |

|Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills, evidenced by high-level reporting, presentation and negotiation abilities, and the |

|capacity to identify and influence critical stakeholders to gain support for contentious proposals/ideas. |

|Behaviours: A history of professional and respectful behaviours and attitudes in a challenging environment. |

|Adaptability: Demonstrated flexibility in thinking, capacity for managing ambiguity and responding to change by adapting strategies, goals and |

|priorities. |

|Problem Solving: Proven ability to anticipate and manage problems in ambiguous situations, develop appropriate solutions and communicate |

|recommendations with reasoned arguments. |

| |

|Essential Criteria: |

|Demonstrated ability to develop or manage and maintain, a portfolio of commercial relationships aligned to CSIRO Services’ markets. |

|Demonstrated ability to maintain opportunity pipeline and workflow systems to ensure accurate forecasting and visibility of opportunities. |

|Demonstrated understanding of commercial BD principles, negotiation, markets, business and technology trends and issues relevant to a service provider|

|like CSIRO Services. |

|Strong team player with demonstrated experience in utilising internal and external networks to deliver results, as well as sharing knowledge and |

|learnings and leveraging expertise across that network. |
