What if… God Called Us to Reach the City?

The Church of Philippi Begins (Acts 16)

Main Point: Following God’s plan leads to great adventure and growth of the kingdom!

Key Verse: He guides me in the right paths for the honor of His name. - Psalm 23:3b

Materials:

Hands on Application:

• List everything you can see right now. (Leader, make a list.)

• What do you think God can see right now?

• Let’s look up and read these verses: Job 28:24; Hebrews 4:13; Psalm 33:13-15

• The Bible also says God knows the secrets of our heart (Psalm 44:21) and He knows every word we say before we say it! (Psalm 139:4)

Personal Connection:

• Who do you usually go to for help or advice?

• I know those are some awesome people! But what limits do they have?

• How is God’s instruction the VERY BEST advice?

• Let’s read Psalm 147:5.

Group Discussion:

• Have you ever had something to say, but no one would listen?

• How does that feel?

• How do you think God feels when we don’t listen for His instruction? (Be SURE to let kids know God wants us to listen because He wants the very BEST for us!)

• How do you hear from God? (Read His word, ask Him what He wants us to know, ask Him specific questions, listen for the impression He gives you, it MUST agree with the Bible)

• After Paul heard from God, who did he talk to about it? (Luke, follow believers)

• What Jesus-followers can you talk to about God’s instructions?

• Do you have a special place where you spend time listening to God?

• What would be the ideal (best) spot to try to listen to God’s instruction? (quiet, uninterrupted, good light for reading Bible, stocked with paper and pencil)

• Can you think of a spot like that in your house?

• If not, could you create a special spot like that?

Conversation with God (Prayer): Fill in the prayer journal and close in prayer. Confess the many times we have not asked for God’s leading; Ask God to help us find that special spot to talk with Him; Ask God to remind us to come to Him every day.
