Steps for submitting Masters thesis for format approval:



This file is created by Niyati Parikh in November 2006. It provides some guidelines related to formatting a master thesis at Arizona State University and getting it approved.

Steps:

1. Format your thesis (using latex) using the stylesheet found at .

2. A sample Tex file that uses this style file is found at .

3. Follow the deadlines laid out at . Note that “Applying for Graduation” means that you’ll have to go to the Student Services Building – 2nd floor Cashiering services and pay the graduation fee. They’ll provide you with more information about some forms to be submitted on the 1st floor as well.

4. Next submit the following:

a. Format Approval Sheet

b. Defense schedule form

c. One copy of your thesis (unbound, no special paper or anything, doesn’t have to be complete, just all pieces put together)

d. Sample article from the journal whose style guide you follow

to the Division of Graduate Studies located in the Administration Building (B

Wing) - just behind the Student Services Building. You can find the forms at



All these things have to be submitted together.

5. Have your graduate advisor sign the format approval sheet.

6. On the format approval sheet, you’ll have to mention the style guide used. The above stylesheet follows AMS style. So, check “Other” and write “AMS”.

7. Because you are following the AMS styleguide, you’ll need to provide a sample journal article that follows similar stylesheet. You can find the article at

Your Masters Thesis Defense Schedule form needs to be signed by your graduate advisor as well.  In order to do that, you'll need to schedule a room, which means sending an email to Audrey Avant (for CSE) requesting the room and a time (I suggest asking for 30 mins before the defense and getting it for 2 hours).  Once the room is confirmed, complete the form.

9. Turn in all the 4 things to the Division of Graduate Studies and you have officially scheduled the defense with the Graduate Studies department.

10. You also need to schedule it with the Computer Science department.  For that, you need to email Martha (CSE academic advisor) a copy of the [pic]"Defense Announcement" from .

11. Finally, you have to submit an event to the department calendar at .
