Sample Email Message: Change in Veteran Status

Sample Email Message from Director to All EmployeesTo: All EmployeesFrom: DirectorSubject Line: Veterans Awareness MonthEach November, <department> celebrates Veterans Day to acknowledge the military personnel who have answered the call of duty to serve our Nation, and to reinforce our commitment of an inclusive workplace culture. In collaboration with the month-long activities, employees are requested to complete the confidential and voluntary Change in Veteran Status Survey. This survey captures an employee’s change in veteran status from the previous survey period. While the survey is voluntary, your participation will help us evaluate our efforts to recruit and retain a diverse workforce. CalHR collects the data received through the survey and reports to departments only the statistical data. As you complete the survey, you will notice that you will be asked for your name and a partial social security number. The purpose of collecting this information is to verify your employment with the State of California and to link the collected data to the State Controller’s records pertaining to your classification and pay. The survey information is collected and used for statistical purposes to assist in workforce planning and mandatory reporting. None of your personal identifying information will be provided to those making employment decisions. The survey period will take place throughout the month of November along with brown bag lunch seminars and other activities to help bring about awareness and educate on the importance of an inclusive workforce and the survey. I encourage all employees to participate.
