2007 Frank G. Berlin YMCA Day Camp

As part of our continuing mission to build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities, YMCA Day Camp is the premier location for your child to belong this summer. Through games, sports, art instruction, creative drama, swimming, and field trips, your child will develop social skills, good values, and an active body. Our theme for this summer is “All-American Summer” with weekly themes such as Wild, Wild West; Pirates & Buccaneers; Discoveries with Mad Scientists; and It’s a Small World. Our curriculum focuses on a wide range of topics, creating a fun atmosphere for your child to actively participate in multicultural and athletic experiences, all wile incorporating our character development program. Your child will venture to many local establishments this summer—Ringling Museum, Sun Star Movie Theater, The Players Theater, Florida Wheels—as well as visiting Florida Aquarium and MOSI Museum in Tampa. During Take Me Out to the Ball Game week, we will cheer on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at a home game in St. Petersburg.

2007 Day Camp Locations: McIntosh Middle School (701 South McIntosh Road) & Ashton Elementary School (5110 Ashton Road).

Camp is available to children entering Kindergarten through 5th grade. Camp will be in session from Tuesday, May 29 through Friday, August 10, 2007. Camp is closed on Monday, May 28th (Memorial Day) and Wednesday, July 4th (Independence Day). New for this year! You may sign up for camp on a weekly schedule—each week is only $135.00 per child. Registration begins Monday, February 12, 2007. A $45.00 registration fee plus $10.00 for each additional child is due at the time of registration (additional fees may apply). Financial Assistance is available for families who qualify.

Middle School Camp 2007

As part of our mission to build a strong spirit, mind, and body for all, the Middle School Camp program is geared toward teens that have completed 5th through 7th grade. Our Extreme Quest camp is geared specifically for the Middle School-aged young adult. Each week will focus on a portion of developing a balanced body through incorporating team building & communication skills, active sports & fitness activities, and leadership and mentoring values. Your teen will venture on many field trips—totaling up to 3 field trips each week—that will contribute toward the week’s focus. Field trips include recreation activities (kayaking, climbing tower, swimming at the beach), learning experiences (Ringling Museum, The Players Theater, MOSI Museum, Florida Aquarium), and fun (roller skating, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and Sun Splash Water Park).

Full Day Arts and Humanities Camp

Is your child interested in the Arts? Does your child have a flair for the dramatics? If you answered yes, our full day Arts & Humanities Camp is perfect for your child! Your child will explore different areas of the Arts--creative drawing & painting, poetry readings, dramatic performances & talent shows, mentorship, and science & culinary concoctions! Camp is available at Wilkinson Elementary School. Camp begins Tuesday, May 27th and ends Friday, August ____. Camp will be closed on Monday, May 28th (Memorial Day) and Wednesday, July 4th (Independence Day). Weekly fees are $135 per child. A non-refundable $45.00 registration fee for the first child and $10.00 for each additional child is due at the time of registration (additional fees may apply). FULL DAY SPORTS CAMPS

YMCA summer sports camps are designed for active youth ages 6-12. These camps provide skill development through the introduction of tactics, proper techniques, and fitness application related to the different sports throughout the week. In the morning campers will improve skills through active play. In the afternoon campers will play organized games and tournaments. Campers are divided into age and skill appropriate teams for the overall group learning benefit. The week will be packed full of relevant activities such as: how to keep a score book, how to officiate, game strategies and skills, and coaching skills. Your child will participate in a coaching program that will emphasize Teamwork, Team Spirit, Character Development, Personal Health, A Sense of Belonging, Positive Competition, and Personal Accountability. Campers will create a team name, flag, chant and buff to display while performing together during the week. Sports that the students will be participating in are soccer, flag football, cheerleading, baseball, softball, kickball, track and field, hockey, and different sports from around the world. Weekly fees are $135 per child. A non-refundable $45.00 registration fee for the first child and $10.00 for each additional child is due at the time of registration (additional fees may apply). Leaders In Training LIT (ages 12-17)

The LIT program is for teenagers who want to learn how to become future camp counselors. These youth work closely with the counselors and the campers to provide a safe, fun environment for everyone. The YMCA staff will provide a complete training program. Activities include learning how to administer First Aid and how to prepare a daily lesson plan. To attend this camp teens must fill out an application and apply. The LIT program is $105 for members and $130 for non-members. This camp will be held at the Frank G. Berlin YMCA Bari Brooks Center. ½ Day Specialty Camps (ages 6-12)

The YMCA is proud to announce half- day camps to fit the needs of the active child who has more than one thing to do during those busy summer days. Weekly themes include Art, Dance, Science, Computers, Music, Cooking, etc. This camp caters to those who like smaller settings and individualized attention. This camp will be held at the Frank G. Berlin YMCA Bari Brooks Center. Weekly fees are $80 for members and $105 a week for non-members. Bring those paints and markers; it is time to get creative in our Arts and Crafts Camp. Bring out the inner-artist in you.

Week 2 Kids’ Kitchen

This camp will give all of you “Iron Chefs” out there the opportunity to learn how to cook and eat healthy.

Week 4 Make Me Laugh

Five days of humorous activities.  What does it take to make you laugh?  We will be exploring everything from silly songs, stories, and riddles to physical comedy and magic.   Was that a belly laugh I heard?

Week 5 Marvels of Music

Learn about the different forms of music, make your own instrument and end the week with a concert for family and friends.

Week 6 Dance

Get ready to break it down while you are introduced to the many different dances of all times! Are you ready to dance with the YMCA stars?

Week 7 Star Search

Learn a new talent, or brush up on an existing one. Walk the runway, be a model for a day, and learn about the behind the scenes of being a “star!” Spend the week rehearsing and having fun, then put on a talent show YMCA idol style.

Week 8 Wonders of Science

Are you a natural born chemist or maybe an astronomer? Nurture the scientist in you as we explore everything from mysterious substances to magnetism to magic potions. Get ready to learn about the world and beyond….

Week 9 Computer Capers

There is more to a computer than word processing and you will have the opportunity to experience the wonderful technological world of computers! You will also learn about Internet safety and how to have fun through games.

Week 10 Spice it up week

This camp will have an international flair with foods and culture from around the world. Join us at the end of the week for an international potluck celebration.

BASKETBALL &

INDOOR SOCCER CAMPS

Ages 5 to 10 years

These weekly camps for boys and girls will focus on skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, teamwork and good sportsmanship. Campers will be instructed on the rules of the game and also scrimmaging. Campers will be broken down into appropriate age groups every week.

Camps are Monday through Friday morning’s 8:30am to 11:30am and take place at the Berlin Branch.

FEES: $65 per member each week, $95 for non-members for each week

Youth Basketball Camp Dates:

June 4 – 7 June 11 – 15 July 9 – 13 July 16 - 20

Youth Indoor Soccer Camp Dates:

June 18 – 22 June 25 – 29 July 23 – 27 July 30 – August 3

Gymnastics

The Sarasota YMCA Gymnastics Program adheres to the USAG progressive/developmental gymnastics guidelines. Safety is our first priority! Registration for all gymnastics camps begins on Monday February 26 at membership services. All camp fees are per week, please note refund/cancellations/absence policy at registration. There is no before or after care provided.

Preschool Gymnastics Camp

An exciting atmosphere for 3 ½ to 5 year olds. They will learn beginning skills on equipment sized just for them. They will balance, jump, roll, and climb their way to fun. They will also participate in co-operative and large group activity each day. Campers need to bring a morning snack daily.

9am – noon, $80/week first child, $75/week second child, or 4+ weeks of registration. 5/29-6/22, 6/25-7/20, 7/23-8/10

Transitional Gymnastics Camp

A camp for children entering kindergarten and first grade. They will be instructed on vault, bars, beam, floor, and trampoline. They will also take part in tumbling clinics, group games, and arts and crafts. In addition, all campers will receive instructional swimming two days a week for one hour. Campers need to bring a non-perishable morning snack and lunch everyday.

9am – 3pm, $150/week first child, $140/week second child or 4+ weeks of registration.

School Age Gymnastics Camp

A camp for children entering grades 2-6. Campers will receive training on vault, bars, beam, floor, and trampoline. They will also have tumbling clinics, group activities, and field trips to ESJ water park. All campers need to bring a non-perishable morning snack and lunch daily.

9am – 3pm, $150/week first child, $140/week second child or 4+ weeks of registration.
