4800600-4762500Dear Parent/Caregiver:Regina Public Schools believes that reporting to parents/caregivers what students know and are able to do is an essential part of the educational process. The Progress Report communicates growth and achievement in relation to curriculum outcomes and provides information that encourages self-evaluation and goal setting. The Progress Report indicates an overall grade for each subject area and also includes information about how well a student is mastering literacy and numeracy outcomes according to Saskatchewan Ministry of Education curriculum documents. Classroom teachers assess students on an ongoing basis. This information is communicated to students and parents/caregivers in a variety of ways that may include:PowerSchool Parent PortalOnline and print tools such as newsletters and/or blogsSchool to home notebooks or agendasTelephone callsFace to face meetings and/or discussionFall and spring student/caregiver/teacher conferenceIt is important to balance reporting needs with instructional purposes. This year schools will use a reporting process that includes:A fall conference in November that includes the sharing of Regina Public Schools Common Assessment informationProgress Reports at the beginning of February and end of JuneA spring conference in March focussing of growth and developmentOngoing communicationResearch shows that student success is highly correlated with parent involvement in school progress. From a classroom perspective, balancing reporting with instruction that meets the needs of all students is desirable. Day to day assessment strategies provide teachers with information to be able to do this. It is hoped that the many ways teachers communicate in an ongoing way with parents provides them with the information they need to partner with the school in helping their child at home. Parents are encouraged to contact classroom teachers throughout the year with comments or concerns regarding their child’s growth and development. Sincerely,Mrs. L. Daelick ................
