Using the Thomas Friedman article, “It’s a Flat World, After All,”

write one 250-300 word essay in which you address THREE of the FIVE following questions:

1) Has the world really gotten FLATTER? If so, how?

2) Of all the “flattening” events that Friedman describes, explore in detail the THREE that you think are most important.

3) Are their any “flattening” forces or key events that he has failed to mention? (Hint: You should be able to think of at least TWO and provide some details on them. Be creative, but base your arguments on historical facts and/or the economic theory (especially the role of the US as a CONSUMER, and the dependencies we have on other nations for certain things- oil, cheap clothing, cheap labor, cheap electronics, etc.- and their reliance on us for income for their exports.)

4) If you could talk to any of the business leaders/entrepreneurs that Friedman spoke with (or others), who would they be? Detail at least four questions that you would ask them about their business and the changing world economy.

5) In the United States in particular, who is going to succeed in the new world that Friedman describes? Who will not? What steps are you taking to ensure that you are part of the first group (those who succeed)?

This assignment will count as THREE homework grades. I will be grading it on a scale of 0-6 (as explained by the SAT Essay Writing Rubric on the back of this sheet). It is due on TUESDAY, first thing in class.

Good luck!
