Newspapers

The importance of newspapers in educating the youth.

Let’s begin from advantages & disadvantages of reading newspapers.

Advantages:

- they can have useful information about recent events;

- almost all newspapers contain true information;

Disadvantages:

- sometimes there are rank articles that influence people badly.

According to the number of interviewees in our class, we have such results.

“How often do you read newspapers?”

50% of our classmates sometimes read newspapers. 40% read them every day & 10 % read then rarely. So… not bad!

Anyway, we must make our newspapers in a way they would be interesting for all teenagers.

We have a few suggestions:

- write in newspapers not only political events, but add more interesting reports about fashion, stars, music;

- add different crosswords, quizzes, jokes, texts of songs, poems.

May be it sounds a little bit impossible, but why not?

Actually, our school has its own newspaper “Pretty Garden”. The 1st number was published in December, 2002. It contained important school events, congratulations, poems. Now it is bigger, than earlier. And do you have your own school newspaper?

Мы знаем: город будет цвесть, когда такие дети в четвёртой школе есть!

[pic]

[pic]

Why are newspapers important for students? Imagine life without newspapers or internet or TV or radio.

How do you use newspapers in advisory? Which section do you read or discuss.

Name a headline that was important to you. Give details about it--the timing, the people, the place. Explain why it mattered to you. (5+sentences)

Newspaper Document        By Robby Sanders And Marco gonzales

-Headlines from our newspapers

* Italy native works to build bridge between cultures

* A life or death commitment

* Otay Ranch High to represents country

* YmCA, schools develop youth swim program

* Somali refugees story is topic of museum exhibit

Many things are happening around the world, the YMCA has started developing swim programs for schools giving students the opportunity to learn to swim and stay active. In Africa crim and mayhem, continues as children are forced to face many dangers while trying to walk to school or even in their own homes, Also because of disease and rape related to crime many children are born in wedlock with birth defects and many sicknesses.

Robby:

I personaly do not read the newspaper although sometimes our classes give us the option to read newspapers to find out facts and events that are happening in the world. I do not know anybody who reads the newspaper since my friends and I do not find any interest in the news paper, politics and events happening in other countries, but we do like the comics though sometimes.

-Headlines from OUR newspaper

 * India's TATA Buys 2 british automotive icons

 * U.S.A WINS 3-0 OVER POLAND IN SECOND CONSECUTIVE WIN IN EUROPEAN SOIL

 * MEXICO WINS 2-1 OVER GHANA AS TWO LATE GOAL BY EL TRI BY CARLOS SALCIDO ,PAVEL PARDO

 * CLEVELAND FOREST FEES MAY RISE FOR CAMPERS

 * THE 10TH ANNUAL CESAR CHAVEZ BREAKFAST DRAWS 1.500 PEOPLE

Many Things happen all over the world today like the cleveland forest insan diego is open for campers. Fees may go up

for those campers up to 20%or moreint the coming months. The USFC has put these extra charges so that they can pay  alot of money

 for the october wildfires.

MARCO:  I DO NOT READ THE NEWSPAPER unless it's sports though our advisory makes us read it we analyze it sometimes to find out whats happening in the world. the paper is very important in american life because if the newspaper doesn't tell them then who will thats why the newspaper is important in corporate america.

by:jennifers13@ Access Level: Student (165.24.247.165) Mar 24, 2008

well for me i think that newspaper isnt really important for students because they can still learn diffrent stuff thats happening in the world in another place, they dont really need the newspaper.

by:nuria13@ Access Level: Student (165.24.247.165) Mar 24, 2008

Newspapers are important because they let you know about what's going on in the world today and the major issues. In advisory, we read the "Union Tribune" section and the "Region" section. We read whichever section we get and then choose a story to read. After, we have to talk about what we read. A headline that was important to me was about the death toll of the soldiers who've died in the war, which is 4,000. It's sad that so many have died.

by:elijah12@ Access Level: Student (165.24.247.165) Mar 25, 2008

I never take to much time out to read the newspaper.

I normally recycle it, or use as tissue paper.

or if the dog pees on my new sheets WACK jk... JK? I sound like a priss.

by:joy12@ Access Level: Student (165.24.247.165) Mar 25, 2008

newspapers are important for students because they help understand events across the world. life without newspaper, internet, tv, and radio it would probably be bad because communciation will be very hard. in advisory, my friends and i scan through the newspaper till we find what interest us. we mostly read the sports section.

one headline i read that interest me was called:

JESSICA'S LAW it interest me because jessica law would make sexual predators have GPS systems. it made wonder "how will they keep track?" "how would it feel knowing that you are being watched?" that why it why i was interested.

I believe that newspapers are important for they inform the community with issues, events or entertainment globally.

A world without newspapers or any news reporting piece of literature would make society not very informed.

In advisory (mine is Richards by the way) on every monday we reflect on an international issues in the world. We find topics of international concern in the Union Tribune section.

Just today i read how efforts were being made in Barsa, to stop Shiites and Iraqi govenment from raiding/attacking each other.

Photography

Mar 31, 2008

My favorite hobbie is photography. I like to spend time on photography because its a way to express your self without using any words also you can capture your favorite or most meaningful moments of time with a simple picture-that is photography. Photography is allowing youself to see something "small or simple" in a creative way...it is to find art and give "life" to the object of less meaning. Photography is always fun and nobody else is needed but you.

SOCCER

Re: SPORTS and HOBBIES - - My hobbies

Mar 31, 2008

In my free time im usually in the computer checking the internet and listening to music. When im done with the internet i whach T.V. or go out but if i really have nothing more to do i do my home work

My spare time

Mar 31, 2008

Well in my spare time i play basketball. We practice on Saturdays. This is pre-season so no games for a while. Then when I'm at home in my free time I go to Youtube and watch at old music videos that they do not show any more. An I ad the song to my account. I listen to any thing but hard music.

Read/Draw

Tue 10:01 AM

In my free time, I like to draw, read, go on the computer to chat with friends...and I also watch TV sometimes. Then when I go to church, after class, me and my friends play football and stuff. It's a lot of fun.

Soccer and My Space Tue 10:04 AM

on my free time i like to study and read alot........sike! on my free time i like to play outside wit my homies. we play alot of stuff like baseball, football, and soccer most of the time. or when i cant go outside i just use the computer and go on myspace for like 3 hours and talk to alot of people.

Kickball Tue 10:11 AM

I play basketball football kickball(sometimes) and soccer with my friends. sometimes we just play around.

Kick a ball

Tue 10:14 AM

In my free time i like to go outside and just kicking around the ball around with my little brother or I go to the park with my friends and play soccer over there instead of playing with my little brother.sometimes when I'm grounded and can't go anywhere not even outside of were I live I have to stay home and just watch t.v and talk on the phone

Football (Soccer) Tue 10:14 AM

I like to eat and use the computer and use the tv and sometimes if im not lazy ill go play futbol.

SPORTS and HOBBIES -

Tue 10:26 AM

My favorite sport would have to be cheerleading because there are fun stunts and tumbling and i love doing them. I started doing cheerleading four years ago and i just can't stop. In a stunt you have two to four bases and a backspotter. Then you have the front spotter that helps the flyer get down or back up.Then finally you have the flyer, which is probably the most important person in a stunt. I am usually the base but some times I am the flyer. I love going to competition every year because we get to compete with other squads. Every year i win 3rd place, but this year i want to get 1st or 2nd.

Eating!

Tue 10:31 AM

Eating is one of my favorite sports or hobbies what ever it is

Music) Tue 10:06 AM

My hobbies are listening to music, watch t.v, going on the computer, and playing video games. I play soccer sometimes wit my friends in the park.

Re: Re: SPORTS and HOBBIES - - Click REPLY to Answer

Tue 10:08 AM

I also listen to a lot of music, I mean how could I forget that? I like different kinds of music like JRock and heavy metal and alternative rock and stuff, but I also like stuff like Eminem and t.A.T.u. I just listen to a lot of different typpes of music so I don't just focus on one.

Drawing Tue 10:04 AM

In my free time, i like to write stories, draw pictures, and just sit on my bed and listen to music. Writing really helps me when i'm stressed because i can get all my thoughts down on paper. And when people read them, they don't know that it's me so i can tell people about my problems without REALLY telling people. My drawing is just for fun, i'll draw anything that comes to mind. i don't really have a reason why, it just helps me relax i guess, i draw at least 2 or 3 pictures before i go to bed. As for listening to music, it helps me escape this world and go to another, because sometimes i'll hate my life so much that i just wish i could disappear to somewhere else, the music helps me do that!

Video Games Tue 10:14 AM

after school is my only free time and on the weekends so what I like to do is like go outside and play with my friends or use the computer myabe play video games and not studing!

Soccer

I like soccer.

Huge Earthquake Due To Hit Region, According To Study

People that live in the southern part of California Know that they are standing in a shaking ground. In La Jolla they used satellite data to confirm measurements of the moving ground. People that research said that they have estimated that in a future earthquake around the San Andreas It would have a magnitude of eight. That earthquake might be as strong as the earthquake that happened in San Francisco on 1906. They are not sure of when exactly will the earthquake occur. The last earthquake with a magnitude of seven to seven point nine happened in 1990. Scientist think that earthquakes are caused because surface layers get locked in place and that causes pressure.

                                       Julian Schist

The Julian Schist is a series of scattered exposures of metamorphosed sedimentary rocks. Named after the historic community in east San Diego County, these rocks represent the sediments that accumulated in the shallow seas of the Pacific Ocean nearly 200 million years ago. These thick blankets of sediments around the edge of North America into what is now central Mexico. Since then, the sediments have undergone extensive uplift and erosion so that they now exsist only as scattered exposures.

The Julian Schist contains quartz veins and actually, some of these veins contain gold. Because of the gold, it caused the start of the gold rush and lead to the establishment of the towns Julian and Banner. Even till this day, people are still residents of these towns.

I'm connected to the Julian Schist because it's not only a series of metamorphosed sedimentary rocks, it's a part of San Diego County. Because of the Julian Schist, I have the oppurtunity to visit the pretty, quiet, little old town of Julian. Without this Schist there would never have been a gold rush and Julian town would have never existed.

The Julian Schist is a series of metamorphosed sedimentary rocks. It is named after the historic community of east San Diego County, Julian. These rocks represent the sediments that accumulated in the shallow seas of the Pacific Ocean. The Julian Schist also contains quartz veins, and some of these veins contain a significant amount of gold. This gold started a gold rush and later lead to the establishment of Julian town. Till this day, Julian is a famous town in San Diego County and a cool place to visit. Schists not only can cause erosion or turn into scattered exposures of rocks, but sometimes they can create a part of history.

Key Terms:

1. sedimentary rock: rock formed from pieces of other rocks that are cemented together.

2. Schist: a medium to course grained rock that can easily be split into parallel layers.

3. quartz: a common mineral that occurs in many types of rocks.

4. metamorphosed: change completely in form of nature.

Major Earthquake Due to hit Southern California, Study Says

About 300 years of pent-up stress in southern California is sufficient to trigger a horrible earthquake on the San Andreas fault system. The San Andreas fault marks the line between the North American and the pacific tectonic plates. Tectonic plates are pieces of the earths crust that are huge and move really slowly and all the tectonic plates fit together like a puzzle and when to tectonic plates hit each other a earthquake starts and if the tectonic plates hit hard a major earthquake starts. the fault is notorious for major earthquakes including the 1906 earthquake that reduced the San Francisco bay area into ruble scientist think that the fault is fully charged for a major earthquake but no one knows when the earthquake will.

Geology of Torrey Pines

The rocks are always in full bloom and that is an important thing because we are in the fault zone between the pacific plane and the North America plate. Torrey Pines is in the edge of the Pacific plate, moving toward the Aleutians at about two inches per year. If the movement continues, we will be dragged under the Aleutian chain in about eighty million years. We have some faults on our ocean side so we may get left behind a bit as a small island.

Sea level has changed relatively to the environment. Also during the last ice age about 10,000 years ago, the sea level was about 300 feet lower than today. The lagoon to our north was carved 300 feet deeper than its present mud floor, and then it got filled with the mud when the ice melted and the sea rose. If global warming melts all the ice in Antarctica and Greenland, sea level will be 300 feet higher lapping at the Lodge.

What technology do you use at school? For what purpose? Describe an interesting project you have done recently and tell how it might have been different without technology.

What technology do you use at home or in the library after school? What technology do you own or share with your family? For what purpose? How long do you spend with technology after school? Describe an interesting project you have done recently.

What do you see as your future with technology?

Well when IM at home i use the phone to text my friends and also to tell my mom that IM home from the bus stop.I use my IPOD when I go places like school, airport, travel in the car, and more(etc.).I sometimes watch TV when IM done with my homework to. Also the cars we ride in are a Corolla and an Expedition.... And my dad rides a motorcycle to.

By the time i get home the amount of technology i use is sometimes a little and sometimes a lot to. It sometimes depends on what i feel like to.

Also without technology for myhero project that would kinda have been really bad, because how would i know what President Ronald Reagan look like and information about him to.

But my favorite technology is my IPOD. Because i love music its kinda like my life to. Why? i have no clue but i love listening to it.

Well when I'm at home i use the phone to text my friends.I use my IPOD when I go places like school, travel in the car, and much much more. I always watch TV when I'm done with my homework to. Also the cars we ride in are a GM and a dodge Durango and Toyota camry and my dad rides a motorcycle to.

By the time i get home the amount of technology i use is a lot . It sometimes depends on what i feel like to do on the computer.

Also without technology for state powerpoint would have been really bad, because i needed to look up information about my topic.how would i know that Detroit Michigan is the car capital of the world.

One of my favorite peaces of technology is my 30gb pods video. Ii love music and its the coolest thing to listen too. Why? i have no clue but i love listening to it.

At school we use the computers in the library, just for projects or learning. At home I have a computer, laptop, MP3, stereo, video games(Gamecube) and TVs but we share, yeah. If I have time, I spend a lot of time on the computer(it depends) or watching TV, maybe playing some video games. My future with technology, I'm not really sure about.

I watch all my shows.for example I watch family guy,my wife and kids, and other stuff. Then I stop watching t.v when nothing is on so I do my homework. We use the computer at school to do projects such as power point. To research things and to type essays. We did a Power point for Mr.Hancock in History and if we didn't have power point it would not be good. At home I use the computer and play games or whatever. I also listen to music and then thats it. Technology in the future will be crazy advanced.

I use computers at school.I use them to type, help with homework and talk online.I have done a power point. It would have been boring without it.I would have had to draw the picture or glue them and write or paste the text, it would have been bland.I use the computer after school. I own a mp3 player CD player and FM radio.I also share a cell phone with my family. The mp3,CD player and radio so I can listen to music. The cell phone is so i can talk to my friends.

I can't use it when Im doing English and Science. I cant use it for those subjects because I have to read. Thats the kind of tecnology I use. We own and share a t.v and a computer. Because we like watching t.v and we also enjoy useing the computer.well I usally dont use it on week days because of school.but if my mom lets me use the computer then ill use it for about 1 hour. I havent done one in like 2-3 weeks. I see lots of new tecnologu in the future.

I use a library computer. At my school there is not a lot of Technology .We use the computer to make power points, book reports, class reports and many other things. I did a project in English class called My Hero. It was so fun because we made a picture of our Hero in Art class and did a big report after we were all done.Without technology I wouldn't have been able to type my project and send it to My Hero Website.

I use my cell phone to text all my friends.I text about 12 to 5 hours a day but I can text while i do my homework on watch T.V because i can multi-task.I share the computer and big T.V with my family but both my older sisters and my parents have their own T.V's and I am the only one without a T.V in my room. WE watch T.V for fun and to educate ourselfs.I watch T.V about 3 hours a day.

I think that i will be the same as i am as an adult

At schoool I use the computers at the library. The purpose in which we use the computers is to do projects or work. Sometimes you use it for learning. An interesting project that I have done is the animation thingy.

At home I also use the computer to be on myspace and to sometimes put songs on MP3's or to fool around. I dont know how people can stand not having a computer. One reason I have to use the computer is to go on youtube and see the chilenas, tiheritas, and cavesitas that soccer players do to make cool golasos. Like ronaldinho when he does chilenas and makes goals.
