EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2022 (NY S. 51001):

NY S. 51001 has redefined the term "firearms". As such, any gun including muzzle-loading, black powder, flintlock, matchlock, percussion cap, or antique firearms (produced in 1898 or before) now fall under the definition of "firearms" in New York and must be transferred via FFL Dealer to include a background check. Per the same law, all ammunition or ammunition components must transfer via FFL dealer to include a background check.

Rifles

Effective September 4, 2022: A license is necessary to purchase any semi-automatic rifle. Under pre-existing NY law, individuals must be 21 years or older to acquire a gun license.

The following are prohibited:

Semi-automatic rifles that can accept a detachable magazine and have one or more of the following features:

1. Folding / telescoping stock 2. Pistol grip 3. Thumbhole Stock 4. Fore-grip 5. Bayonet lug 6. Flash suppressor

7. Muzzle brake 8. Muzzle compensator 9. Threaded barrel 10. Grenade launcher 11. Over 10 round capacity

Any rifle with a magazine (including tubular) with a capacity greater than 10 rounds.

Buffalo, NY: No semi-automatic centerfire rifles with magazine capacity over five (5) rounds.

.22 LR caliber rifles of any action with tube-fed magazines of any capacity are permitted. (i.e. semi-automatic, bolt, lever, pump, or slide - does not include fully-automatic)

Shotguns

The following are prohibited:

Semi-automatic shotguns that have one or more of the following features:

1. Folding / telescoping stock 2. Thumbhole stock 3. Fore-grip

4. Fixed magazine over 10 rounds

5. Ability to accept a detachable magazine

Buffalo, NY: No semi-automatic shotguns with magazine capacity over five (5) rounds.

Effective August 5, 2022

Other Firearms

NY S.9456/A.10504 has redefined the term "firearm." Mossberg Shockwave, Remington Tac-14, and any other pistol-grip firearm expelling a shotgun shell, with barrels shorter than 18", but overall length greater than 26", are now deemed "firearms" and require both a pistol license and approval from county of residence approving the addition of the "firearm" to the pistol license. Pistol-grip shotguns, those firearms that have a factory-installed pistol grip and barrel length of at least 18", and an overall length greater than 26", are also included under this definition.

Customers attempting to purchase these items must present a copy of their pistol license, as well as assurance from the county of their residence that the item CAN be added to the license. A transferring FFL's refusal to transfer a "firearm" as defined above, OR refusal of the NY county to add the item to the license will result in assessment of non-refundable fees for return of the item to us.

Handguns

The following are prohibited:

Semi-automatic handguns that have one or more of the following features:

1. Folding / telescoping stock 2. Thumbhole stock 3. Fore-grip or other protruding

grip that can be held by non-trigger hand 4. Threaded barrel

5. Capacity to accept a magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip

6. Barrel shroud 7. Manufactured weight of 50oz or more 8. Over 10 round capacity

Mare's Legs pistols are considered by the state a short-barreled rifle and cannot ship.

Accessories / Ammunition

Effective September 1, 2022: Per NY S. 51001, all ammunition and ammunition components must be transferred via FFL dealer to include a background check. Effective July 6, 2022: No body armor sales to anyone, including LE because of "in-person" sales-completion restriction. Any device, component, part, combination of parts, attachment, or accessory that increases the rate of fire of any firearm, including but not limited to bump stocks, trigger cranks, and binary trigger systems is prohibited. The following are prohibited: Magazines exceeding 10 rounds. Batons No defense sprays Unserialized 80% frames or receivers are prohibited. Exploding targets and compounds, marketed as separate binary components and sold

under trade names such as Tannerite, H2, and Last Man Standing (list not inclusive), are prohibited. Buffalo, NY: Magazine capacity limited to five (5) rounds for semi-automatic centerfire rifles and shotguns.

ACTIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS are exempt from the above restrictions with proper credentials on file*.

*Must provide valid, non-expired LE photo ID

ACTIVE PEACE OFFICERS are exempt from the above restrictions if the firearm(s) being purchased

is / are for DUTY USE ONLY.

*Must provide department letterhead along with proper credentials. *LE letterheads must be submitted for each purchase.

For NEW YORK CITY and associated counties:

POLICE OFFICERS and PEACE OFFICERS are exempt from these restrictions as long as they are purchasing the firearm(s) for DUTY USE and have authorization from their employers (department letterhead). LE letterheads must be submitted for each purchase.
