Life is Good!!! And here is your chance to participate in a weekend that has been set as a getaway for you and your friends. Join us for a fun-filled weekend for women ages 21+ where you’ll be pampered, enjoy creative activities, share stimulating conversation, enjoy the entertainment, dine in our fabulous dining hall, and meet interesting adults from all walks of life. We guarantee a stress free weekend and promise you’ll return home refreshed and renewed!

How do you Register?

Complete the enclosed registration form. Choose your workshops, your unit preference and your buddies. Calculate your weekend fee by using the chart on the following page. Add the additional charges for your first-choice workshops, massages, manicures and more. If you need financial assistance to attend this weekend and are a registered adult Girl Scout in Washington Rock, please ask for a GAFA form to be sent to you.

Registration Information: Weekend costs are detailed on the registration form. The deadline for registrations is October 1, 2008. Confirmation packets will be mailed on September 15, 2008.

Activity Fees: Our workshop presenters need to purchase their class materials ahead of time so activity fees, if any, are due with your registration. (If the class is cancelled you will receive a refund.)

Weekend Gear: A packing list will be mailed as part of your confirmation packet. Bring bedding, towels, toiletries, a mug with your name on it, flashlight, activity supplies if needed, appetizers to share for Friday evening, and a playful sense of adventure. Please bring your appetizers with you to the dining hall on Friday evening to share during our Friday Night Kickoff.

Meals: All meals will be served buffet style in the camp dining hall. Please bring an appetizer to share for on Friday evening. Alcohol is allowed at this all adult event. Please bring your beverage choice for Friday evening to Friday Night Kickoff. If you do not wish to stay with others who may wish to partake in an adult beverage, please note this on the registration form. Dry housing will be available. All adults should be responsible when drinking and mindful of those around. Quiet time begins at 11:00 pm for all camp participants.

Session 1

Horseback Riding – 1A

Take a short ride to nearby by 4 Winds Horse Ranch and spend the morning enjoying the beauty of Sussex County during a trail ride. All levels of riding experience can enjoy this trail ride. Fee - $40 Double Session

Wine Basket with Stencil Accent – 1B

Instructor – Debbi Zvanut

Weave a basket for a wine or bubble bath bottle. Perfect for a gift or to grace your holiday table. This round cylinder basket has a swing handle and is made with flat reed. A variety of color accents are available and a stenciled ash insert is optional. Perfect for beginners or those with more experience. Bring old scissors or garden shears, measuring tape, flat head screw driver, 12 clip clothes pins, basin/bucket and old towel. Limited to 10 participants. Fee $10 – Double Session

Knots to Wear – 1C

Instructor – Rose Norrish

Learn how some knots can be made into very attractive jewelry and not for camping but for wearing! Bring two bandanas and a pair of scissors. See how to make earrings, friendship knots, a monkey’s fist and more.

Painted Wine Glasses – 1D

Instructor – Marybeth Journe

Spending the morning creating and painting your own set of matching wine glasses. Marybeth will provide designs and the materials to make these beautiful, useable glasses that can be shared or used at home. Fee $25 – Double Session

Can You Can-Oe? – 1E

Spend an hour enjoying the beautiful fall foliage while you stretch your paddling muscles on Swartswood Lake.

Fall Gardening – 1F

Instructor – Mary Jean Parmelee

Spend the morning working in the Hoover garden – caring for the butterfly bushes, planting some fall plants and bulbs and creating a beautiful spot for reflection and quiet.

Session 2

Yoga – 2A

Yoga is the practice of entering the sanctuary of the body to quiet the restlessness of the mind. It is an experience of using asanas (postures) to go inward and discover what blocks us from living joyfully and in alignment with the body’s natural rhythms. Wear comfortable clothing. Come and rejuvenate!

Silk Screening – 2B

Instructor – Mary Jean Parmelee

Learn how to design and create your own silk screens. Bring a hand drawn design with you and something to silk screen on. You will learn how to make temporary and permanent screens during this morning workshop. Bring your own shirt or something cotton or purchase one through the Trading Post for $4.00.

Finance for Women – 2C

Instructor – Marion Morrissey

Unravel the mystery of wills and trusts, investments, saving money on taxes, planning for college expenses and for retirement! Other subjects will be discussed.

The 370 Day Expedition – 2D

Instructor – Kathy Jackson

A powerpoint presentation about how an adult, Girl Scout took life’s challenges and turned them into an unexpected, 370 day sojourn to five countries on two continents. Handouts will be given at the end on a collection of traveling on a budget, tips and hints.

Photography – 2E

Instructor – Mary Clancy

Is taking photos your thing? Well, here is your chance to learn more about lighting, composition, balance and more in this hour and half long workshop. Whether you want to take candid or staged shots this is your chance to gain more practical experience. Bring either a digital and/or 35 mm camera.

Session 3

Canoe/Nature Hike – 3A

Increase your canoeing skills as you paddle to the other side of the lake for a nature hike. Beginner canoers welcomed! Double session.

CPR Course – 3B

Instructor – Heather Trumpore

Become certified in CPR by an American Red Cross Instructor. During this course you will receive all materials and learn the necessary skills to save a life. Fee $25 – Double Session

Ropes Course Instructor – 3C

Instructors – Alison Taylor

This course is a great way to help the girls take risks, build self-esteem and improve teamwork. This training qualifies you to lead your troop at the Camp Hoover Challenge Course. Dress comfortably, warmly and wear boots. Double Session

Stamping Class I – 3D

Instructor – Cyndy Ponczek

Want to learn more in-depth stamping techniques then just stamping cards and scrap booking? This is the class for you! At this class you will take your stamping abilities above and beyond! In this class you’ll make a “squash” book. You can carry it around to show off your kids, grandkids, pets, whatever! A little folding, embellishing, viola! You have a new little album/book to give as a give or put your latest pictures in! Please bring: 12” paper cutter with scoring blade, paper snips, bone folder and adhesive it you have it. Fee $10

Floral Design – 3E

Instructor – Dot Hooker

Try your creativity by making a floral arrangement using a variety of silk flowers in a watering can. It can be given as a gift or added to any home for a splash of color. Limited to 10 participants. All material provided. Fee - $12

Decadent Desserts – 3F

Instructor – Deb Hooker

During this hour and half spend time creating delicious hors desserts that can be shared with all after dinner. Chocolate covered strawberries, cakes and more! All participants will receive copies of the recipes.

Session 4

The Art of Paper Cutting – 4A

Instructor – Jackie Hilles

Paper cutting is a common folk art that goes by many different names. In German and Pennsylvania “Dutch”, it’s Scherenschnitte and in Polish it’s Wycinanki. As beautiful as some these works of art are, it’s easy to recreate them at home. You’ve practiced paper cutting before – when you were a child and made snowflakes at school. With colored paper, scissors, glue and a pattern, you can create your own works of art.

Stamping Class II – 4B

The Sweet Outdoors – 4C

Sick of S'mores? Bored with Banana Boats? Learn to make some new campfire desserts that will tantalize your taste buds. 

Pilates – 4D

The Pilates method is a system designed to lengthen muscles as it strengthens them, with an emphasis on muscular movement initiation. While improving balance, posture, coordination, strength, flexibility, and balance, it is an effective way to rehabilitate injuries and chronic pain. Wear comfortable clothing.

Watercolor Painting – 4E

Instructor – Marybeth Journe

Learn basic drawing and painting skills to create a beautiful watercolor. The backdrop for your painting will be the water lilies found at the Hoover waterfront. All materials will be supplied.

So just bring yourself, your open mind and your desire to create.

Our health is important – learn about current medical information, traditional and complementary medicine. Ask questions and learn how to create the best health environment for YOURSELF!

Song Workshop – 4G

Instructors – Chris Carswell and Loreli Stochaj

Come and learn new songs and share some favorites! This workshops will bring out the kid in you!

Massages

Looking for a little extra pampering? Professional massages are available in 15 minute and 30 minute increments. Massage appointment times will be reserved as they are received and prepayment must accompany your registration to ensure accommodation. This may overlap with a workshop.

Manicures

Do your hands and nails need a little extra attention? Manicures are available for $11. Manicure appointment times will be reserved as they are received and prepayment must accompany your registration to ensure accommodation. This may overlap with a workshop.

Service Project

Small service projects will be set up throughout the camp for those people who are interested in giving back to Camp Hoover. The following new or used donations will also be accepted this week: single bed sheets and pillowcases, board games, DVD’s, wash clothes, kitchen dish cloths and towels, potholders, and can openers.

Trails

Camp Hoover has several hiking trails that can be used by any level of hiker. Trail maps will be located in the Dining Hall. Explore the beauty of Camp Hoover by walking one or more of the trails on camp. The Self-Guided Nature Trail packets even explains about the wildlife, habitat and foliage found on the 340-acres.

Free Time 5:15 – 6:15

Relax. Read a book. Take a walk. Spend time in the Nature cabin or visit the Ropes course. Play a board game. Or just spend some time catching up with old and new friend
