Scale Drawing Project Description

Scale Drawing Project Description

You will be making a scale drawing of a stronger, more efficient house of logs or straw for The Three Little Pigs. Your scale drawing will be of an overhead view of the home. You must decide how many rooms, windows and doors the home will have.

Each room in the house must have at least two items in it. For example, a bedroom could have a bed and a dresser. You only need to give measurements for length and width. This is a one-story house that is 12 feet tall. You do not need to worry about height for anything other than the cost of your logs or straw.

You must determine the scale factor that you will use to fit the house on one sheet of graph paper. One square on the graph paper will need to equal a certain whole number of feet in real life.

When you make your drawings to scale, you must draw the lines neatly (using a ruler) and accurately. Not all of your lines will line up with the lines on the graph paper. You must clearly and neatly label all of your objects and measurements.

Give your project a title and color it to make it look nice and easy to read. But be careful: excessive colors and patterns are distracting and can actually detract from your drawing.

You have $______ to work with on this project. You may not spend more than what you have. This means you will have to make choices about what windows, doors, materials and items you use for your house. You may have to go back and revise your original plan after you calculate the total cost of these items.

You must attach an itemized cost list to your floor plan. Be sure to go room by room and list the cost of each item in the room. You also need to list the cost of all windows, doors and your logs or straw as well as shingles for the total area of your roof.

All work will be due and presented on Friday, February 8.

For an extra credit quiz grade, you may build an actual 3D model of your home. It will be graded based on accurate scale and neatness. This is optional, but will need to be with you when you present on Friday.

Most importantly, have fun!
