Senator Edward M. Kennedy Scholarship Fund for BCCS Alumni “Unlocking the doors of higher education is more important today than ever before, and the dream of a college education should be available to any student with the talent, desire, and commitment to pursue it.” --Senator Edward Moore KennedyAbout the Edward M. Kennedy Scholarship FundThe Edward M. Kennedy Scholarship was created in 2009 by Judith and Mark Siegel and is dedicated to the memory of the late Senator to honor his lifelong commitment to access for all whom so aspire to the American dream of upward mobility through education. The Fund provides awards of up to $1,000.00 to BCCS alumni to ensure that the opportunity of college is not impeded by financial disadvantage. Who May Apply?Graduates of Boston Collegiate Charter School (BCCS) who are in the process of pursuing a college degree as an undergraduate are eligible to apply. Additionally, BCCS seniors may also apply upon acceptance to college.Use of FundsAwards must be used by individuals in their pursuit of completing an undergraduate degree. Scholarships may be applied to the purchase of textbooks, supplies, lab fees, costs associated with transportation, tuition, or any other expense incurred during the pursuit of a college degree, so long as the applicant provides his/her rationale.How often can I apply? Applicants may apply once per academic year (August to June). In extraordinary circumstances, a second application in an academic year will be considered. Priority will be given to alumni or students who have not received previous funding.Application DeadlinesApplications are accepted on a rolling basis. However, applicants that are requesting funds for use at the beginning of the fall semester should submit their application by May 31st to ensure timely review. Applications submitted in the summer months will not be reviewed prior to September.
