2020-2021 Systemwide Scholarships Summary Glenn and Dorothy Dumke FellowshipOne $1,400 scholarshipThe Glenn and Dorothy Dumke Fellowship was established in 1993 in honor of the late Chancellor Emeritus Glenn S. Dumke and his wife. The scholarship supports a student doing research from the CSU archives. Marketing Suggestion: Provide a copy of the scholarship criteria to the chair of the departments of history, economics, public administration, public policy, political science, and library science, where applicable.Nathaniel R. and Valerie Dumont ScholarshipEight $4,000 scholarshipsThe Nathaniel R. and Valerie Dumont scholarship, established in 1993, supports students with visual and physical impairments. Eligibility is limited to students attending CSU Dominguez Hills, CSU Long Beach, CSU Los Angeles and CSU Northridge.Eligible Campus: CSU Dominguez Hills, CSU Long Beach, Cal State LA, and CSU NorthridgeMarketing Suggestion: At eligible campuses, provide a copy of the scholarship criteria to the Students with Disabilities Offices. Howard C. Christiansen Trust EndowmentFour $6,000 scholarshipsThe Howard C. Christiansen Trust established an endowed scholarship fund in 2016 for students studying any major in engineering toward a bachelors or graduate degree. Scholarship applications for the CSU Trustees’ Award will be selected first. If there are not enough engineering applicants, then the scholarship may be awarded to a second pool of engineering applicants outside the CSU Trustees’ Award. Marketing Suggestion: Provide a copy to the deans of engineering.Trustee Emerita Claudia Hampton California Academy of Math and Science EndowmentFour $ 4,000 Scholarships:Trustee Emerita Claudia Hampton was an educator and the first African American member of the CSU’s Board of Trustees. Fellow Board members established the scholarship to honor her for her non-partisan views on education and for the way she helped empower students. The funds support four scholars who have graduated from the California Academy of Math and Science High School who are studying at any CSU campus. Marketing Suggestion: Run a query identifying students who graduated from CAMS and send the scholarship announcement to those students.William & Janet Lahey Art Education and Visual Arts Scholarship EndowmentOne $10,000 Scholarship:William Lahey served as CSU Assistant Vice Chancellor, Faculty and Staff Affairs, for twenty years. The endowment is a tribute to his commitment to education and his wife’s passion for the arts. This scholarship is for students in a post-baccalaureate program leading to a high school single subject teaching credential in the arts and will cover tuition, campus fees and a stipend. Marketing Suggestion: Provide a copy of the scholarship criteria to the chair of the education department to identify candidates.Richard Leffingwell ScholarshipTwo $3,000 Scholarships: The scholarship will support students pursuing a course of study in business, economics or other disciplines that will serve the applicant in achieving goals relating to nonprofit or public service. All else being equal, military veterans will receive favorable consideration.Marketing Suggestion: Provide a copy to the schools of business and economics and to the coordinator of veteran’s affairs.Robert M. Odell Endowed Scholarship in Public AdministrationFour $2,000 scholarships:The California Society of Municipal Finance Officers established the Robert M. O’Dell endowed scholarship fund in April 1987 to honor the former city treasurer of Los Angeles. Scholarships are awarded on a rotating basis to campuses offering degree programs in public administration and alternate between northern and southern geographic regions of California. Eligible Campuses (2020-2021): Chico State, Cal State East Bay, Fresno State, Sacramento State, San Francisco State, San José State, Sonoma State, Stanislaus State (rotates between northern and southern CSU campuses with public administration programs) Marketing Suggestion: Provide a copy of the scholarship criteria to public administration department.Wilson C. Riles Education ScholarshipThree $2,000 scholarships: Established in 2003, the scholarship program recognizes Superintendent Riles’ deep commitment to education through support of students enrolled in California State University teacher credential programs, with preference given to first generation college students. Scholarships rotate in alphabetical order between all campuses with a teacher credentialing program. Eligible Campuses (2020-2021): Humboldt State, Cal State Long Beach, Cal State LA, CSU Monterey Bay, Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly Pomona, Sacramento State, (rotates between CSU campuses with teacher credentialing program in alphabetical order annually)Marketing Suggestion: Provide a copy of the scholarship criteria to faculty in the teaching credential program.Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship for Visually Impaired StudentsThirty-nine $10,000 scholarships:Established in 1991, the scholarship supports students who have a visual disability with preference to legally blind students. Eligible candidates must be enrolled in at least 6.1 units per term. The CSU Foundation will continue to accept applications year-round. The scholarship is in honor of James “Jim” Sanders who was news director at television stations in across California. Marketing Suggestion: Provide a copy of the scholarship criteria to journalism, media and communication departments. CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding AchievementOne $15,000 Razi ScholarshipOne $10,000 Reed ScholarshipOne $9,000 Hampton ScholarshipOne $8,000 Galinson ScholarshipNineteen $6,000 ScholarshipsThe CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement recognize students who have demonstrated financial need, modeled exemplary academic performance, community service and personal accomplishments. Each campus will have a Trustees’ Award Recipient. Campuses may submit two nominations with one applicant studying in the STEM fields. Nominees who are not selected for a Trustees’ Award will be given at minimum a $1,000 honorable mention scholarship.Marketing Suggestion: Provide a copy of the scholarship criteria to your dean of students for nominations. Razi ScholarOne named $15,000 scholarshipIn 2006, Trustee Emeritus Ali C. Razi and his wife, Anousheh, endowed this scholarship to recognize the highest ranked student in the Trustees’ Award review process. Chancellor Emeritus Charles B. Reed ScholarOne named $10,000 scholarshipIn memory of Chancellor Emeritus Charles B. Reed, several donors contributed to increasing the endowment. The endowment originated with proceeds from Chancellor Reed’s TIAA-CREF 2012 Theodore M. Hesburgh Award. Additional donations in memory of Chancellor Reed were added in 2017. Ron & Mitzi Barhorst Endowed ScholarshipAfter several years of funding a CSU Trustees’ Award scholarship, in 2017, Ron and Mitzi Barhorst decided to continue their funding of the award through an endowment for the CSU Trustees’ Award. Mr. Barhorst has served on the CSU Foundation Board of Governors since 2000. Trustee Emeritus William Hauck ScholarThe Trustee Emeritus William Hauck scholarship, established in 2011, recognizes the scholar from San José State University. Trustee Emeritus Kenneth Fong ScholarThe Trustee Emeritus Kenneth Fong scholarship supports a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) scholar for the CSU Trustees’ Award. Haworth FamilyIn 2006, an estate gift from the Haworth Family established a scholarship fund for students demonstrating financial need who maintain a B average and are studying science, art, humanities, education, pre-medicine, medicine, pre-law, or law.James Key EndowmentIn 2014, an estate gift from James Key established a scholarship fund based on financial need for students not receiving other privately funded scholarships.Trustee Emeritus George M. Marcus EndowmentTrustee Emeritus George M. Marcus contributed $100,000 in support of the Trustees’ Award in 2014. Mr. Marcus has served as a member of the CSU Foundation Board since 1987. He also served as a Trustee of the CSU from 1981-1989, and as a member of the UC Board of Regents from 1999-2011.Angelina Aliberti and Lawrence L. RuggieIn 1981, an estate gift from Angelina Aliberti and Lawrence L. Ruggie established a scholarship to support students pursuing a course of study in the humanities, including law and the field of social work. John and Beverly Stauffer FoundationEstablished in 2011, the scholarship fund supports the Trustees’ Award. Trustee Emeritus Laurence Gould serves on the board of the John and Beverly Stauffer Foundation. Robert D. & Dorothy W. TaltyRobert D. Talty, a chemical engineer for over 55 years in Southern California, served as President of Heat Transfer Research, Inc. The Talty’s bequest supports scholarships for students majoring in engineering, physics, chemistry, biology and computer sciences. Howard C. Christiansen TrustThe Howard C. Christiansen Trust established an endowed scholarship fund in 2016 for students studying any major in engineering toward a bachelors or graduate degree.ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS ADMINISTERED BY OTHER UNIVERSITY PARTNERSWilliam & Janet Lahey Summer Arts Endowment- CSU Summer Arts, a multidisciplinary systemwide program offering academic credit plus an arts festival for undergraduates, graduates, and professionals in the visual, performing, and literary arts, offers scholarships of varying amounts for participating students.RELUI Scholarship-Through appropriated funds from the California State Legislature, the Real Estate and Land Use Institute Advisory Board determines the annual scholarship distributions. The California State University Real Estate and Land Use Institute (RELUI) is a CSU system-wide institution that promotes research and professional education related to land use, real estate investment and development.Michelle Marriott Scholarship-CSU International Programs manages the distribution of the Michelle Marriott Scholarship. This scholarship was created in memory of Michelle Marriott who was an International Student in Aix-en-Provence, France in 1985-1986. Ms. Marriott passed away from cancer in January 2014. A qualified student will be selected each year from participants in Aix-en-Provence, France.Lyman G. Chaffee International Programs- Dr. Lyman G. Chaffee was professor emeritus of the California State University, Dominguez Hills. His trust established an endowment to fund scholarships for low-income students with financial need who are studying abroad through the CSU International Programs.Ward Wallach Memorial Scholarship- The scholarship honors Mr. Ward Wallach, a 1982-1983 student in the CSU International Programs at Waseda University who d in an airplane crash in 1985. All applicants to CSU IP Japan program at Waseda University are automatically considered for this award. Gregson Bautzer Memorial Scholarship-The California Academy of Mathematics and Science will select two students each academic year who are graduates from the Academy and who are incoming freshman at a California State University campus. ................
