Because research is a vital component of the graduate program, most graduate awards given by the department are in the form of research assistantships. Eligibility: To be eligible to receive an award, you must be a degree-seeking graduate student with competitive GPA and GRE scores. Conditions: Assistantships are on a contract basis for 10, 15, or 20 hours and span the 10 month academic year. Research assistants work directly with a professor on research and teaching assistants either assist a professor in his/her class, or teach a lower-level course.Other Financial OptionsBYUAnnaley Naegle Redd Student Award in Women's HistoryThe Annaley Naegle Redd Student Award in Women's History provides up to $1,500 for research support concerning any aspect of women's history in the American West (not limited to the Intermountain West). Applications not receiving the Redd Award but dealing with Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, or Wyoming will be considered for the Summer Awards for Upper Division and Graduate Student Awards. Research may be conducted at any location. The funds are to be used for research support and not as salary. Awards may be used for any worthy project including the preparation of seminar papers, theses, and dissertations. Application deadline is 3/16/2020.Charles Redd Center Senior Seminar/Capstone Project AwardsCharles Redd Center Senior Seminar/Capstone Project Awards will be given each year to BYU undergraduate students who are writing a paper on some aspect of the Intermountain West (Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Montana, or Colorado). The award is up to $500 and can be used to cover gasoline, parking, copying, bus, and/or lodging expenses.
