South African and International students should prepare

themselves for an array of scholarships for which applications are

currently

invited.

The Rhodes, Abe Bailey, Mandela Rhodes and DAAD scholarships are just some of the scholarships to which Maties can currently apply. From the provision of funding for postgraduate studies and exchanges, to spending several weeks in the UK, these scholarships empower students to build their own international networks and experiences abroad. Read below for deadlines, more details and who to contact to start applying!

DEADLINE SOON: SKILL Master Coursework in The Netherlands (Maastricht University)

Applications are invited for SKILL Master coursework bursaries for a maximum period of three months at Maastricht University, School of Business and Economics. Deadline for applications for courses (Master level) in academic period 1 (September ? October 2013) or academic period 2 (late October ? December 20132014): 15 April 2013. The SKILL bursary covers: plane ticket, accommodation, visa, insurance, living allowance and tuition fee.

DEADLINE SOON: Fulbright Scholarship: Postgraduate Studies

The Fulbright South Africa Post-Graduate Studies Program will be accepting applications for the 2014-15 U.S. academic year until April 20, 2013. This program provides South Africans the opportunity to pursue Masters or PhD. degrees at U.S. academic institutions. South African PhD. students can also use this program for a oneyear non-degree program to conduct research and/or take courses at a U.S. academic institution. The program is open to South African residents and permanent residents who have a Bachelor degree and/or Honours for the Masters program or a Masters degree for the Doctoral program. The study grants are competitive and awarded for a period of two years.

DEADLINE SOON: TEFL Certificate course: apply now!

The Stellenbosch University Language Centres 120-hour TEFL course prepares individuals for a life of adventure teaching English abroad. The Universitys TEFL certificate and an undergraduate degree will put you in good stead for an overseas EFL teaching position at either a private language school, government school or tertiary institution. Many of our TEFL trainees who successfully completed our course are teaching in countries such as Saudi Arabia, South Korea, China, Thailand as well as here in South Africa. Registration for the June course is now open, but seating is limited to a maximum sixteen trainees.

Target: individuals wishing to teach English abroad. Deadline: looming; apply as soon as possible. DEADLINE SOON: Abe Bailey Travel Bursary

The Abe Bailey Travel Bursary is awarded annually and cover the cost of an all-expenses paid 3-week educational tour of England and Scotland including the cost of tourist class return air fares between Cape Town and London as well as travel between inland university centres and Cape Town. It includes the cost of carrying out the Tour and all excursions according to the approved programme. The selected bursars from various

South African universities will gather in Cape Town on the 20th November 2013, spend two days together for orientation and depart for London by air on the 21st November 2013. The tour will officially end in London on the 14th December 2013.

Early Career Grants: applications open

To mark its Centenary, the ACU is offering 100 Early Career Academic Grants to staff at ACU member universities to attend relevant conferences or academic meetings in another Commonwealth country. The scheme is aimed at early career academics who have not yet had the opportunity to work, study, or travel outside their own country.

GIGA (German Institute of Global and Area Studies) wishes to hire two doctoral students

The successful candidates will join either the GIGA Doctoral Programme or the doctoral programme of the Graduate School of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg.

London Symposium on Climate Change: 22 - 24 June 2013

HOPE-Princeton Exchange: June/July 2013

The Hope-Princeton exchange program will award one student in their 3rd or Honours year a trip to Princeton University in the United States of America over the winter break (June/July) to work on an introductory project in Astrophysics and Cosmology.

A*STAR Scholarships in Singapore

A*star scholarships are available as a 2 ? 6 month "research internship" for regsitered Masters and PhD students (SIPGA). Postgraduate Research Studentships at The Open University

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the Open University invites applications for two full-time PhD studentships for three years and two part-time PhD fee waivers for six years commencing October 2013. These students are available for UK/EU and international applicants. The Faculty has a thriving research culture and is engaged in world-class, critical and agenda setting research in fields such as human geography, culture, citizenship, identities, governance, criminology and international development and innovation. Foreign Correspondents Programme: Finland

Would you like to spend the month of August in Finland learning more about the country, its society and the Finnish way of life? If you are a newly graduated journalist or a student of journalism/communications due to graduate soon, you may be eligible to apply for a scholarship to take part in the Foreign Correspondents' Programme (FCP) in Finland in August 2013. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland now welcomes applications from citizens or residents of the following countries: Argentina, Belarus, Brazil, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Japan, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam. The programme provides an excellent opportunity for you

to learn more about Finland, Finnish society and the Finnish way of life. It also offers you the means to enhance your professional skills, as well as expand your network of professional colleagues and international friends.

The programme starts on August 5th and ends on August 30th, 2013. It includes briefings on Finland today; meetings with professionals, politicians and people; and visits to business enterprises, cultural sites and institutions. It also includes a weekend as a guest of a Finnish family, as well as trips to different parts of Finland. You will also have access to working facilities with PCs, internet, telephone, printers and copiers at the International Press Centre at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The scholarship covers the costs of travel to and from Finland, local travel in Helsinki, accommodation in a single room in a student residence and the daily programme including meals, events, transportation and lodging. The programme does not cover medical insurance or per diem allowance.

Target: newly graduated journalist or student of journalism / communications due to graduate soon. Applicants should possess a good command of written and spoken English, be 22 to 27 years of age and have the ability to adapt to a multinational group of people in a foreign country. South American Business Forum: student participation

The SABF gathers 100 university students from all around the world ? no matter their chosen course of studies ? and 40 prominent international leaders from different areas during August 9th, 10th and 11th 2013. Applications may be sent in from February 8th until May 5th 2013. In order to attend this event, students must write an essay making reference to this years main theme: 'Rethinking the Rules of the Game'. Afterwards, a selection will be conducted by an independent jury, composed of professors, business leaders and journalists.

SPACES: scholarships for doctoral studies in Germany

The general objective of the SPACES Programme (Science Partnerships for the Assessment of Complex Earth System Processes) is to develop partnership projects in research and development in the Southern African Region which will contribute to the formulation of science-based recommendations for Earth System Management for the sustainable use of goods and services provided by the system.
