Every title is supported with effective teaching strategies to help all children become independent readers who love to read. Teachers can tailor instruction to meet a variety of interests, while building the comprehension skills and confidence students need to read independently.
Guided reading is an instructional approach designed to help individual students learn how to process a variety of increasingly challenging texts with understanding and fluency through small group instruction with students with the same or similar reading abilities. It is an instructional approach that can supplement a basal textbook.
Scholastic offers five Guided Reading Programs that support any comprehensive reading program.
• Guided Reading Fiction Focus, 2nd Edition (Red) is a K-6 fiction focused guided reading program (80% of the collection is fiction) with 26 levels (A-Z);
• Guided Reading Nonfiction Focus (Blue) is a K-6 nonfiction focused guided reading program (60% of the collection is nonfiction) with 26 levels (A-Z);
• Guided Reading Content Areas is a K-6 guided reading program that includes science, social studies, and mathematics titles aligned to content area standards with 26 levels (A-N);
• Guided Reading en español is a K-3 guided reading program that includes favorite Spanish language titles with 14 levels (1-12)
