48577519050Live Healthy Nevada CountyFarm to School Liaison Job DescriptionSummary : The Farm to School liaison is the point person for coordinating Live Healthy Nevada County Farm to School activities in a given school. This person works closely with the LHNC Farm to School staff, school administrators, teachers, farmers, students, and families to strengthen the connection between fresh food and the community’s health and wellness. Major ResponsibilitiesRun the produce stand at your school (1-3h/week May and Sept-Nov)-Create schedule for produce stand hours of operation and publicize in school community.-Ensure that stand is set up, run and taken down each week by yourself or a volunteer.-Coordinate purchase, delivery and storage of produce and starts from farm partner and fruit vendors as needed. -Reach out to school home gardeners to bring produce donations for the stand.Run one farm field trip for each 3rd and 6th grade class in your school (3h/trip, 2h prep/trip, 2-4 trips total)-Schedule field trip dates with farmers, teachers and administrators.-Attend field trip as lead facilitator.-Recruit and train volunteers to attend and lead activities during each field trip.-Communicate and plan with teachers and farmers in advance of each field trip.- Develop (in collaboration with Farm to School co-chairs) and conduct age appropriate, standards-based farm activities as part of each field trip.- Provide teachers with lessons for pre and post field trip-Follow up with teachers and farmers post field trip for feedback and improvement. Administer the Harvest of the Month program in your school. Receive and deliver produce to each classroom monthly. Provide teachers with monthly newsletters and curricular resources. Conduct one Harvest of the Month classroom tasting each month. Make sure newsletters are sent home to parents. Attend staff meetings quarterly to engage teachers, administrators and other relevant parties in the program. Assist with program evaluation.Liaison between school and LHNC (2-3h/month)Attend Farm to School Liaison trainings and meetings on a monthly basis. Help conduct surveys to evaluate program goals and measurable outcomes. Communicate with Farm to School Co-chairs regarding needs and successes of farm to school programs in your school. Provide LHNC with timely invoices for payment of farmers and other service providers. Restock supplies on produce stand and attend to any needed repairs.In school events (3h/event, 2-3 events/school year)-Help to schedule, promote and host in-school events such as tastings, farmer visits, and nutrition education.
